3/15/06 - Ok guys, I got my car back last night and I couldn't be happier. The butt dyno tells me that this thing pulls a lot harder than before. Heres the best part: very little rasp. I won't go as far to say there is no rasp, but its as good as you're gonna get with an aftermarket header. Only a little bit of rasp at high rpms. For normal driving (2k-4k), no rasp at all. I would say after 5K you hear a little bit. Not embarrassingly loud like the other guy that has the CC catback with his MMW.
I could definitly feel an increase. I don't know if it pulls any harder than the other headers out, because I 've never driven a s/c tC with a 4-1, but I am definitly happy with the product, despite some issues I had with MMW. These issues were resolved for the most part. Now I have to find time to get it dynoed. Note: I do not have a boost pulley, so I may not get the numbers others are getting with the ZPI and NST pulleys. If I were to venture a guess, I would say I am at around 220whp. Once again, thats just a guess. With the NST pulley I'd expect at least 240whp, which is more than any other s/c tC I've seen on here.

DUDE, that's a nice setup u have there. i want to do the same with mine, just the headers for now and i think that i am going to go with BORLA headers. (i get a discount) thats cool that u could get the super charger. i have an auto, so i am going with a turbo. i need to save up for that. again thats a sweet ride and good luck with the future mods.

I will say this though. Along with the ZPI Crank Pulley V2 and Stage 1 S/C, this Babe winds up fast! With the stock tires and wheels, I can do pretty much nothing but do some impressive wheel spins all the way thru 3rd. How's your tractability? Lead foot'n from anything under 25-30mph will get ya no where.

I too am waiting for the Specialists at ZPI to discover more ways to earn my money. The FMI/C is a no go for now, but the S/C intake should be spectacular.

Thanks for the info on the BPV. I have been lookin all over for that. I will contact ZPI and see what they will tell me. I may end up going to that Scion Shootout on the 8th, 9th.

i was putting the trd S/C into serious consideration. but idk how much more hp i can get. i think it would be easier to turbo mine. How many hp....ft/lb of torque are you pushing? (Navylife59 and super white)

I have yet to dyno my car. ZPI did the TRD S/C and came up with a true 199WHP and I forget the torque. You can look it up on their site. I have some other go fast goodies so I would think mine was pushing atleast 230WHP. Untill I lost my low-end curve with the addition of the DC Sports Header all I could due at WOT in 1st and 2nd was spin the tire(s) with 3rd finally grabbing half way thru. That was on rough concrete with good tires (factory). My problem right now has to do with that weak BOSCH 108 BPV that comes with the TRD. I can easily change it for a BOSCH Sport 110 BPV but think I will go the more tuner route and purchase a sequential BOV and mod it to a BPV. I will then have to get a boost controller. The guys at ZPI are planning on a Stage II head and with a 14PSI pulley and larger injectors I am shooting for that magic 300WHP mark.

As far as the TRD vs Turbo debate its entirely up to you. The Tc loves both. My decision over Turbo for the TRD was this:
* TRD was $2900 from McGeorge Toyota Online
*Dealership install for $300 and it up'd the warranty on the TRD to match the engine/pwrtrain warranty for the car. Turbo you can void ur warranty.
*Simple and easy setup. A Turbo can be a nightmare to tune properly if you dont have the right equipment. Plus to take full advantage of ur Turbo setup you will have to purhase boost controller, e-manage, and a plethora of gauges. Can we say cha-ching$$$$
*The TRD is safe and reliable. It has so much more potential if ur wanting to explore that route. ZPI is developing more and more stuff for it.
*The TRD looks cool and not everyone in the tuner world has one. Why follow the crowd?

sorry to say, but a BOV is not gonna do much on the TRD s/c. It will cause you to hear a continuous whoosh when decelerating. Not a pssst like on a turbo. I can guarantee you will get sick of it soon. Trust me the Bosch Sport 110 is plenty good enough. And you can't beat $65 shipped.
As far as a boost controller, superchargers don't use boost controllers. The only way to "control" boost on a supercharger is to change the pulleys.

^yup. i was like "wtf...." when he was talking about BC's on a s/c'd car. theres no wastegate to manipulate the vacuum.

and recently its been found that modifying the stock TRD pulley may cause oil leaks on the shaft and will void the warranty. i'm not a fan of ZPI's engineering and their so called R&D.

Think outside of the box. Yes, you can use a boost controller on a S/C. On a turbo, the wastegate is not the ony thing controlled by vacuum and optionally by a boost controller. Does the S/C not have the same device. Although, originally designed to prevent damage to the the compressor and the throttle body, the BPV/BOV design could be modified to control boost like a wastegate. Basically, a smaller pulley creating more boost than needed would allow the S/C to be spooled up at lower RPM's. Two cons here would be the the S/C would always be running up at high R's (possible fatigue issues?) and a BPV/BOV that can handle the heavy duty cycling needed to accurately control an overboosted S/C. BOSCH now has a new vacuum controlled BPV.

A centrifical S/C is essientially the same device. The difference, of course, is what drives it. I am not knocking Turbos at all. What I am trying to do is not something new, just different. Google it and find out. Ever watch the Mad Max movies? The S/C was controlled (boost/no boost) by an electrial clutch on the snout of the roots style blower (could have been a whipple). Merlin and Allison power plants for WWII high performance fighter aircraft utilized 2-stage S/C. The P-51D Mustang actually used the excess heat from it's radiator and S/C intercooler to create an actual 10lbs of thrust like a ramjet. Energy is neither created nor distroyed, but it is wasted. Extract what you can with whatever you can.

By the way, a S/C Scion Xa was beating all but the best turbo'd Tc's at ZPI's shootout (according to their website).

I know. His name is Justin and he is from around here. I already told him I would run his xA when I am done with my car. He is also running nitrous. IMO n02 is steroids for your car. You could spray a Geo Metro and destroy a stock tC. Does that make it impressive?

I agree, NOS can be a bad thing. I ain't knocking anyone that runs NOS, as long as, it is sensibly. What I don't like to hear is someone talk up their car, but won't race because their NOS bottle is empty. Back in the early days of F/I, I 've seen a 350 Camaro sitt'n at the local hot rod shop with a piston thru the oil pan.

Interesting side note, I just read a in a Mustang rag of a late model Fox-body Pony Car with a 444 big-block running a Vortec S/C with 18 PSI controlled by a ProCharger Valve.

u a custom FMI is available now for the tC w/ a supercharger, but it might take some time and patience to get all the pipes, look into i believe it was modified MAG, or import tuner for March and April, there is a guy who did it and its in the magazine

Problem w/ FMIC or air-liquid IC is that there is always a pressure drop across them. For a turbo it is not a problem. Just turn up the boost on the boost controller and your back on track. With a S/C you have to change the pulley to make up for the loss. This makes the S/C more inefficient. No sense in spinning the S/C faster for nothing more; just to break even.
