    Default ebay turbos?!?

This might rank in the top 5 dumbest questions ever on these forums but I feel a need to ask it anyway. Is there a point in geting one of those cheap-o turbo kits off of ebay? Currently I can't afford a GReddy T/C and I'm looking for inexpensive alternatives to boost my horsepower besides simply the Headers, exhaust, and intake. Any sugestions/bashing is welcome as I believe I've brought it upon myself this time!

Ps. I'm talking about those kits going for 400-500 dollars compleat.

    Thanks as always,
    Tony

dont worry it isnt a dumb question (although it has been asked here before). but unfortunately, to get reliable, high quality boost, you have to spend the money. i want boost just as much as the next guy - but paying the big bucks for proven technology now will keep you from paying big bucks cuz of a blown engine!

not trying to scare you or discourage you, but that's the way it is. do it the right way!

i wouldnt do it its better to pay the big bucks than to get some cheap unreliable turbo kit and have your engine blown

but if you want another way to get more power you can do h/e/i, change out pulleys and put performance belts, LSD, better tires, nitrous shots, put a piggy back, pistons, get the new performance cam shafts, fly wheel, short shifter, fuel injectors

most of that you would do even if you get the turbo. takes a lot of cash to play that game! but if your willing - you gotta save! im working on diligently saving change made from buying stuff in stores. it's worth it!

Cheap and horsepower should never be in the same sentence unless "not" comes before cheap. Example:

    Horsepower is NOT cheap.

yeaa i definitely wouldnt take my chances buying a turbo off of ebay. i mean some stuff on there is legit..but why risk potentially having to buy a whole new motor because of a faulty turbo? dont do it...

For '05-'06 models there is always the TRD S/C. It is affordable and somewhat reliable, rebuildable, and can be warrantied. Of course, a 2005 tC would not have much of a powertrain warranty left, so it would be the standard 1 year. Also, there is a cap in the amount of power that you can make from this setup. If you have a hard on for boost and mega power, then you need a turbo.

For me, I want to increase the redline so my tC can stretch her legs. A 3rd gear run with a TRD S/C boosted tC pulls like there is no tomorrow. The power just keeps building and building. Then, you hit the revlimit. That is such a buzz kill because you know that it would continue building usable amounts of power, if only it were allowed to do so. After these ellusive cams from BC get tested, I am doing a head upgrade. 6.2K is so lame.

    Default heh

check this out, I gave it a really good look at and everything is there. All the pipping is really good qaulity and the turbo is a t3/t4 hybrid capable of 30+ psi (or so they claim). All for 800 plus shipping. It even comes with a in car timer and bov! everything...i dont see how anyone of this could damage your engine, especially if you had it installed correctly and didnt over boost. Heres the link check it out

    eBay Motors: SCION TC 03 04 05 06 TURBO KIT 2.4L 2AZFE T3/T4 (item 250253628994 end time Jun-05-08 17:19:54 PDT)

look at that intercooler...i was really leaning twards getting the turbo toyotas simple kit for $2500 til i saw this ..

that intercooler IS huge! but i just cant trust it! even if it's all legit.for something as major as a turbo, i'd rather spend 5 grand and be safe. i hate passing on what looks like a great deal tho.

if you're ballin, give it a shot!

    i agree .. mayb it'll work for u .. but i don't trust it
