    Default Turbo problems

ive had a full greddy turbo kit on my 05 tc for over 2 years now, ive got the emanage blue and the 440 injectors, ive had issues since i can remember that just sort of poped up and actually cost me a motor, The car is running a little lean going my my a/f ratio gauage dont know the exact numbers since its not that kind, but it never really hits green unless shifting which i know its supposed to then, other than that most of its time is spent gliding back and forth from middle of the gauge in yellow stoich and all the way to red and then no lights at all. i know its supposed to be in stoich, but for it drop off the lean side when im crusing at 70mph just doesnt seem right, now for the feeling, its hard to explain, but almost like its missing, mainly happens at full throttle in 3rd 4th and 5th its like a very fast bump, bump, bump which you can feel in the pedals and floor, i cant describe the sound to you, im assuming its detonation due to the a/f gauge readings, oddly it will happen when driving slowly to in 2nd or 3rd like when driving in a neighborhood. The oddest of it is the fact that it happens randomly, not all the time, sometimes it gets up and flys, and others times there is that feeling and it just doesnt have the push its supposed to. i dont know what could be causing it, im running it at the 8lbs of boost it come as, the emanage is connected properly i had a shop do it for me then double checked their work, the injectors were also installed by the same shop, i havent checked them yet but planning on it this weekend, and lastly the spark plugs are new, it does go through the plugs pretty quick, ive got a grade rated higher for heat, but it will turn them white and actually turn the spark tip into a sloaping point almost like a pawn in a chess set that would come to a straight point. Any advice would be great from you guys. Thanks

Sounds to me like your running your spark plugs too hot, try getting some -2 plugs for it that should help with that. Also did the shop tune the kit for you or just install it?

im running one step higher for the heat since the turbo produces more heat, the shop did no tune since the emanage comes with a tune from greddy

Uh, dude. You should be running 1 or 2 step COLDER plugs for boost. I run 2-step colder plugs. I'm running the Turbonetics kit.

Did you call Greddy to see what iridium plugs they recommend with their kit on their tune?

Try running NGK Iridium BKR8EIX (2 Steps Colder Spark Plugs). Also Contact Greedy and see what they know about your problem, tell em your burning up plugs. It could be that there tune is for a different octane fuel than what you are using...just a suggestion.

StreetBrawler89 is right, you may have the wrong map loaded. It has happened before. Being that you have most likely experienced some level of detonation, you should have your compression checked. Is this a built motor? The builder should have logged the compression of each cylinder when it was blue-printed and assembled. Cracked piston rings could account for the random performance swings.

One thing to look at is fuel. If you have not upgraded your fuel pump, now is the time. Your stock pump may be overwhelmed and unable to keep the fuel rail pressure up. If you have upgraded, it might still be failing, have a pressure leak in the tank, or faulty wiring.

The OEM ECM is doing it's best to keep the engine in Stoich conditions. Toyota ECMs do a darn good job at it, therefore, piggyback controllers will always have a hard time. More fuel may have to be dialed in. There is a limit for the injector size that you have as they will become saturated and unable to deliver. Talk to a tuner shop about this.

You are right about that navy. That freaking ECU is a freak about trying to keep a constant 14.7 A/F all the time. GAH!

That is why I am going to switch to a standalone. My Greddy Ultimate has great difficulty in forcing rich conditions for my boost level.

im getting the plugs on saturday, i have the greddy support tool, but its been pretty hard finding a computer that has windows 2000 or lower since the emanage tool is so old, no new operating systems will let it fully work with it, but i think my parents have an old computer so im gonna try them this weekend and see what i can get done with that, ill keep you guys posted, the motor was never built, just a bone stock motor running on the 8lbs with the emanage and the 440 inj like greddy suggests will work ok. Thanks for all the info, also any suggestions on a fuel pump and where to get it?

Walbro 255lph - You can get it just about anywhere. You will need to order the pigtail if it does not come with it and a new o-ring for the fuel pump housing. Good time to put in a new filter. Tony at Jotech Motor Sports - || Home Page || can set you up.

You need to download the latest software and firmware upgrade for your Greddy. Click on the E-manage Blue update icon, download, and follow the directions. Total Tune Up GReddy By TRUST

So far, fuel rails are still a custom job.

Just letting you know, i did get the plugs and they are in, i also ordered the little cel fix piece thats supposed to fix your check engine light issue which places the O2 sensor out of the direct air flow. The light has gone off. checked the codes at autozone, and it was my O2 sensor and my mass air flow sensor, I wouldnt think there would be a code when using the greddy kit for the )2 sensor as i would think it would be perfectly ok. but for now the light is gone, i also cleaned my MAF unit which was pretty dirty, the car seems to be running better, but ive notice a few hiccups like it had before, maybe. im gonna try and get the support tool hooked up this comming weekend, but im moving so it might be a little later. but thanks for all the info

The Blue should work. The ECM wants to maintain control and that makes it hard for tuners to dial-in the car just right. The same hold true for the Ultimate. As powerful as it is, the ECM will adjust around it. I know that when my exhaust note changes, I am loosing power due to the ECM retarding timing, even though, the Ultimate has it advanced. There is a method to work around this, but it is very time consuming.

emanage ultimate or stand alone (aem ems, etc)

don't even waste your money on the blue- the ecu will override that and make your car hiccup like mad eventually in closed loop.---that was a quote from a moderator on TN's Camry forum.

I stand corrected. I just heard the same from a die-hard tuner from a speed shop. The Blue's was what everyone was shipping with their turbo kits since day one. My information was dated. Now I am uptodate. See, I am not all seeing, all knowing like that freaky eyeball in Lord of The Blings.
