    Default turbo tC questions...

ok. now im not even close to going turbo yet, but im just so confused from looking at all the threads on here.

i want to know what i should (or have to) get when i go turbo.

im reading stuff about injectors, cams, clutch, exhaust, ported head, fuel system... the list goes on.

now are all of these things necessary for a turbo setup? (this would be on a 8-10 psi setup, until i upgrade the other parts)

what i get out of it is that they are a good idea, but not necessary.

could i go turbo and upgrade different parts as i go?

and i dont understand anything about the ECU. it has to be reprogrammed?

sorry for sounding dumb, this is just too much for my braind to handle. lol

If you have plans to go turbo/F/I buy a complete kit. There are a few good kits out there that make some good power: Dezod.com, FastScions.com. It would be best to upgrade the internals of your engine for F/I, injectors, fuel pump, tranny, turbo manifold, ECU/E-Manage, running a higher octane, 2.50'' exhaust tubing, short-ram intake for ex. There are also some simple bolt-on kits that work very well. It really boils down to what money your willing to spend and what HP range your looking to achieve. The higher the HP your looking to get out of your tC, the more money your going to have to spend. Give Dezod or FastScions a call and talk w/ them, or you could call TRDSparks. Do your homework first, then buy what you'll need and have the job done right the first time.

Furthermore, whatever turbo kit you do decide on, have the whole setup tuned on a dyno so everything runs properly and yes a ECU reflash would need to be done.

i know youve already seen it. but ive been looking at the descendant kit. just a simple bolt on and it comes with the AEM F/I C Controller. so thats what i need right? when youre talking about ECU?

and i want the weapon r short ram intake. ive actually wanted to buy it for a long time and i think i might pick it up this summer.

one more thing... is upgrading exhaust necessary right off the bat? or can i go turbo and wait till i save a little more money?

I have heard of a few tC's out there using the Decendant Kit and haven't heard anything bad. When you do a turbo kit, you'll want to get the ECU/ECM reflashed (Cars Computer). If your going w/ a turbo you'll want to get the exhaust done before anything, and as Navy will tell you, having a 2.50'' exhaust is what you'll want for F/I anyhow, do't go any bigger than the 2.50''. Doing the 2.50'' exhaust leaves you room to grow when you do add a turbo, its done and outta the way.

I don't believe it will affect the muffler that your using, pending on what the inlet/outlet size is. Are you having the muffler clamped on or welded on?

My opinion would be to have the muffler welded on and the way you want it. Either straight back or angled. Welded its going to be very hard for someone to steal your muffler anyhow. It just looks cleaner IMO, less chance of a leak as long as the person welding knows what their doing.

Well I guess I knew you would say welded. Ha.
I'd go straight back to look pretty factory.
I just like the burnt tip look

I like the burnt tipped ones as well. I wish my Magnaflow came that way, oh well. I plan on having mine installed straight back for a stock/sleeper look.

Well for me it's not that I want a sleeper look. It's just that I'm not into the huge cannons most people put on they're cars. The se looks more classy.

I have to agree w/ you, I was never into the cannister mufflers (Fart Cans) anyhow, too ricey/obnoxious for my taste. Its more noise than anything.

Does any one know how much boost the stock motor can handle? and could i run a turbo without replacing fuel injectors or fuel pump?

With an automatic your looking at around 9psi, with a manual over 10, but if you want serious boost, I would take the proper steps and upgrade your engines internasl. Over stressing a stock motor with boost, your going to end up with problems or worse failures. If you do decide to go boost be prepared to run a colder spark plug, thicker oil, a higher octane and possibly less MPG pending on how your drive.

    Stock motor.
    Turbo is about 10~12PSI
    S/C 15PSI tested safe.

Properly sized injectors for boost level is required. OEM pump good up to 550cc injectors but suggest upgrade at this point to prevent any further weak links.

With good oil, timely changes, large oil cooler, 93 Octane gas, proper tuning, correct exhaust and no overboosting; the motor should have the same life expectancy nearly as much as the stock motor. The turbo only puts pressure on the motor when in boost. The more boost, the more stresses created. Keeping the boost turned down for everyday driving will help keep the lifespan of the rings and piston lands up to the maximum. An expensive electronic boost controller can be set to incrementally bring on the boost more like a supercharger. This will allow you to make max boost with far less stress on those components. It is more likely that the turbo's center cartridge will suffer failure from wear and tear long before the engine ever will. That means you need to have a solid turbo setup.
