Default 07-09 Weapon R SC intake?

I have read that the use of a weapon r intake for the supercharged tc's will cause a lean mixture with out a tune (05-06). However, i have recently been told by several people that this is no longer a problem for 07-09 models due to the MAF change, and a Different TRD relfash, and a different design of the weapon r intake for these years.

My supercharger set up and misc. parts are in the mail. I am on the fence about ordering an intake.... Any thoughts for my 2008?

Thanks for the welcome! goals.....i guess just bolt a bunch of stuff on and see what happens! I almost went through with a full ptuning turbo kit installed with a clutch and lsd. However, I got such a unbelievable deal on this new supercharger kit that i could not pass up. I used to work for toyota so i am well aware of all the supercharger problems (even though they made some improvements in 2007). I have new upgraded bearings and a shaft that i am going to install before i install the charger. I will also be putting in a grease fitting in the pulley side. So, i guess my goal is to just have a reliable supercharged tc in the 210-240whp range. Nothing to crazy. I will be running a 9.5lb pulley (its in the mail). Maybe down the road i'll through some cams in, although im not sure which ones to go with, or what other things i will need, ie. injectors, ecu, etc....

Sounds like you've done your homework. I know our very own NavyLife (Scott) has a S/C on his tC, so anything that pertains to that topic, I would direct your questions to him. Me on the other hand am going for show and go, also trying to stay on the reliability/dependability side of things. Hopefully this coming week I will have Tokico Struts and Eicbach Lowering Springs done, then onto taking my gauge cluster and HVAC out and sending those off to MengMotorSports to have an LED swap done (Blue/White), new wheels/tires and a fully custom exhaust from the header back w/ an after market resonator and Magnaflow Exhaust 2.5''.

I actually answered your question, but apparently this crappy cellular broadband drops like a DSL.

Yes, the original WR intake caused a lean condition. They pulled it, redeveloped it so the current ones should not be causing lean conditions. The 2007-up have a more modern designed MAF sensor. Still interprets the air flow data into a 0-5VDC signal for the ECM. Not sure that the MAF tuning is different or not but I expect (educated guess) it is the same. MAF sensors are sensitive to any changes in the intake plumbing. If you increase the ID of the pipe at the MAF, it will under report the amount of airflow. That means the ECM does not realize the extra airflow and will not increase fuel injector duty cycle accordingly. This is the problem I believe that I am having with my car right now. Went from 228.WHP @ 9.5PSI (redline) to 214WHP @ 15PSI (redline). I have my MAF located in a 3.00"ID pipe which is much larger than the OEM.

I wonder if I modify my injen mr cai with the "tuned" piping diameter if that would work alright. What do you think?

The pictures of the newer weapon r intake appear to have a restricted piping diameter at the maf

Without seeing the AF/R like on the dyno, you would not be knowing if it is working correctly. AEM has a new CAI that has an electronic adapter that modifies the MAF signal to correct for the larger piping diameter.

I have seen that and it looks appealing however it is for N/A only. I really think that weapon r has fixed the problem. I think I will bite the bullet and buy one then get a dyno run and find out. If it screws up the afr, I'll sell it on eBay...

I agree. However I am talking about an intake for a supercharged tc.

You'll want a short-ram intake for S/C. Have you looked to see if TRD makes one?

Only weapon r. And the first ones (05-06) were garbage. Supposedly they have redesigned for 07-10 with a design that does not screw up the AFR. BUt there is no dyno results to back this up.

You can build your own with parts from Treadstone or Vibrant Performance but keeping the pipe ID at the MAF (4" length minimum at the MAF) to ID of the OEM airbox. You could step it up further and go with a larger ID pipe at the MAF with this use of this hand product from Abaco Performance. This will allow you to reprogram it's MAF output voltage to better match airflow characteristics anticipated by the ECM.
