I would like to share some very interesting info I came across the other day. I am sure most people know of someone or themselves who have experienced a gas gauge needle that has either stuck or has malfunctioned. I hear a lot of people say its from over filling your gas tank, or an electronic part that has gone bad. In some cases this may hold water, but come to find out there is another culprit. While waiting on a customer yesterday, I got to reading the label on a bottle of Chevron w/ Techron that she asked me to add to her gas tank. I was amazed to read that their product helps to prevent or clean out the Sulfur that builds up in the gas tank and on eletronic parts. The label continued to say that one of main causes to a stuck fuel needle or one that doesn't work properly is due to sulfur build up.
Now my question is this, where is the sulfur coming from? Is the sulfur coming from the gas/liquid itself, the gas vapors, or the gas coming in contact with the gas tank and having a chemical reaction? I know that diesel fuel when its burned emits sulfur dioxide. Also, that gasoline can ruin your paint and cause rust if its not properly cleaned, as well as the internals of the gas tank will deteriorate over time.
Anyone have any explaination for this?
