My throttle body went out on my 2005 tC. If I can find any Toyota vehicle with an 05-06 2AZ-FE, can I swap out that throttle body with mine?

I want to say you can as long as the bore/MM is correct. I am not positive, but you may be able to take one off a Celica GT/S. I would also check to see what the part number is on the tC and match that to another throttle body, if they match then it should work. There's nothing that says you have to take one from an 05-06, a newer model tC/xB should have the same TB. If you happen to get a replacement TB, make sure its cleaned of all carbon build up and it works properly before you make the install. Best of luck to you.![]()

ok thanks for the info, my throttle body went out earlier this week. i just had it replaced a little over a year ago with factory warranty, now my warranty is out and toyota wants to charge me $1300 dollars to fix it
Screw the $1300 bro and get a new or used TB. I did some futher research and I believe you can take a TB off of a Corolla as well. Look around on Ebay, autoparts stores, junk yards/salvage yards and your bound to find something. You know as well as I do that the dealership is going to charge you an arm and a leg for just about anything they can.
Let me ask you this, how is it that your TB's keep going? Is it from carbon build up, butterfly sticking, issue w/ the throttle cable, or the gaskets?

ok guys i need to know what i torque my bolts down to when i install my throttle body, ne one have ne clue
When you replace the TB, make sure you get a new gasket and the torque spec on the bolts is going to be 22ft lbs.

yep already got the gasket from toyota, thnx for the specs
I am almost certain (almost) that a TB from any 2AZ-FE motor, no matter what vehicle, should work. What is going out on it; the IAC, TPS, or the stepper motor? I have not heard of any failures with the TB.

the two error codes i was getting were throttle actuator stuck open, and throttle actuator stuck closed
P2111 Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Open
1. Throttle actuator
2. Throttle body assembly
3. Throttle valve
Comes on DTC stored
P2112 Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Closed
Same as DTC P2111
Comes on DTC stored
DESCRIPTION
The throttle actuator is operated by the ECM, and opens and closes the throttle valve using gears. The opening angle of the throttle valve is detected by the Throttle Position (TP) sensor, which is mounted on the throttle body. The TP sensor provides feedback to the ECM in order that it can control the throttle actuator, and therefore the throttle valve, appropriately in response to driver inputs.
HINT:
This ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) does not use a throttle cable.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM determines that there is a malfunction in the ETCS when the throttle valve remains at a fixed angle despite a high drive current from the ECM. The ECM illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC. If the malfunction is not repaired successfully, a DTC is set when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed
and released quickly (to fully open and close the throttle valve) after the engine is next started.
FAIL-SAFE
When any of these DTCs, as well as other DTCs relating to ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) malfunctions, are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM cuts the current to the throttle actuator off, and the throttle valve is returned to a 6.5° throttle angle by the return spring. The ECM then adjusts the engine output by controlling the fuel injection (intermittent fuel-cut) and ignition timing, in accordance with the accelerator pedal opening angle, to allow the vehicle to continue at a minimal speed. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly. Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the ignition switch is then turned off.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Check for contamination between the throttle valve and the housing. If necessary, clean the throttle body. And check that the throttle valve moves smoothly.
OK: Throttle valve is not contaminated with foreign objects and moves smoothly.
So if the TB is not contaminated, then either the stepper motor has a bad winding or there is a broken tooth on the gear. Not repairable unfortunately. If you would, I would like to buy the bad one from you. I am researching the possibility of being able modify the OEM to a larger bore for forced induction engines. PM me.
