Default Squeaky Sunroof

Hey everyone, just one quick hopefully easy question...
When I have my sunroof open I hear a squeaking noise when I hit bumps. Has anyone else experienced this before and if so, any advice?

Thanks in advance, I look forward to your answers.

-Jay

Does it make any noises when opening or closing? How many miles on the car?

It could be the wind deflector is loose. Try having a friend hold it on known bumps that cause the noise. If it goes away then it needs to be taken to the Dealer to be looked at and adjusted.

It also could be the headliner around the forward edge of the sunroof opening. Mine does this sometimes, especially, when it is cold. Test in same manner by clamping it with you hand against the headliner and the roof just below the sunroof glass. The backside of the headliner has hard plastic forms to help keep its shape.

If it squeeks when it opens/closes, then use a little white lithium grease in the contact areas.

Thank you for your advice, I think I will end up just taking it to the dealer. I only have 28,000 miles on it. This just starting happening recently too, it's not the wind deflector. What I did as a test is opened the sunroof then I got out of my car and when I moved the sunroof up and down w/ my hand it made the same squeaky noise, so it's the actual part that moves back that is making the noise.

So I put a little bit of WD40 on it today and it seems a little better...
It is less of a squeaking noise but now it does a little rattling. I guess there isn't much more I could. If I really want to I guess I could take in to a dealer, but I don't feel like putting up with explaining my problem and waiting around for hours for them to tell me that there's nothing wrong with it...

WD-40 is the WORST. It is water-soluable, meaning it is easily washed away. You have to use a quality lithium grease. Its viscosity has to be heavy and not break down so that you will not have it dripping on you. You should clean the tracks thoroughly with 50/50 H2O/Isopropyl Alcohol before lubing.

take it to the dealer but be forewarned that they dont have a clue as to what is going on. My Son's RS3.0 had squeal at highway speeds from air leaking thru the sunroof. The idiots tried to replace the windshield even after I told them what the problem was.

Default thanks to all

Yea, now it is ratteling especially at highway speeds. I thought about going to the dealer, but I know it will end up being a BIG waste of time. They just don't give a **** about a little problem like this.

I love my car but I feel like it sounds like it's about to fall apart once I hit a bumpy road, ya gotta love Long Island (NY) right?

Default Sunroof Rattle

I had the same rattle/creak/squeak noise from overhead as well. The dealer confirmed the noise, lubed it, tightened it...but same noise as before. The dealer then replaced the whole sunroof unit with a new one at 35,000 miles. The noise has been reduced, but on a rough road it sounds like a can of marbles! The dealer also replaced the bottom front cushion on driver's side. There was some sort of discoloration seeping from the cushion foam through the cover cloth's surface...sort of whiteish stuff. Again no cost to me. I also had the sunroof deflector recall installed. All under warranty.

My ' 05 tC is standard shift. Anyone else think this thing is a tricky shifter? I have a tough time coordinating smooth throws, and I'm a long-time standard shifter.
