E 85 is a mix of Gasoline and Alchohol.
No the tC cant run on it. There cant be any rubber parts in the fuel system on a FFV (flexible Fuel Vehicle) (E85)
Cars can be converted to run tho. I think the fuel pump needs replaced as well.

You can safely run around on 89 with your TRD. Shell sells gas that is mixed with up to 10% ethanol. That is what my car was tuned on.

E 85 is somethign totally different than 89,91,93 and so forth.
Its a completely different mixture of gas run for emissions and gas milage.

    E 85 is 85% denaturated fuel ethenol.
The fuel at shell and most stations now adays is only 10% ethenol.

As far as running the supercharger on 89, it can be done but isnt safe do to detonation issues.

One would think, but from careful analysis of my car before I hooked up the Greddy Ultimate was that 89(high quality) provided the best overall performance. 93 octane actually pulled back the power. When I wanted to go on the hunt I would throw in 89 and Lucas Octane Boost.

What I found out and was confirmed by Kenny Tran was that the TRD reflash is very conservative. Put that ontop of the ECM's notorious nature for playing it safe, it's propensity to save gas, and you have a very reliabe setup One that will take care of your engine. Every engine has subtle differences often caused by additional mods or sensor calibration tolerances. You should conduct your own evaluation. Read your manual. Toyota recommends the use of 10% ethanol based fuels for its cars and trucks with 10% being the max. Like Nick06tC stated, you will have to get a conversion kit, if there is one.
