    Question Temperature Dependant Noise

I am in NY and it gets in the single digits around here. I have noticed that when the temp drops below about 20F outside, when I go over bumps I hear a tapping in the area of my windshield where my registration would be if it were on the passenger side. The sound is like someone tapping on the glass with a screw if you can imagine that. The noise increases intensity as temperature drops and is unbearable on some of the roads I drive. There isn't anything in my glovebox and it isn't the wiper.
I took it in but as fate would have it, it wasn't cold enough so they couldn't hear it. I'm stuck.

I have never heard of that before. I know that glass will contract and expand with temperature but windshields are designed with those tolerances in mind. I would probably give the dealer another chance to check it out.

Well the only way that that could be of any help is if the temperature drops low enough for them to reproduce it. The temperature has been fluxuating a lot around here making it difficult. I do plan on trying some more when we get a nice long strech of cold but until then I was just checkin to see if this has been heard of before.

I live in central Indiana, and I've noticed the tapping sound, too. So has my girlfriend. But the sounds from our tCs sound like they're coming from inside the dash, not the windshield. I haven't been able to locate any cause yet. Honestly, I'm not concerned. Materials do strange things in cold temperatures.

colder weather usually gives more noise/vibes/rattles/etc in the car.

i'm in illinois and i also have the same problem...when the weather is cold i hear my rear windows rattling..i took it to the dealer and all they did was put more foam on the hatch because they were unable to reproduce the problem...but like goomazegoM said the weather is changing so much one day its cold and the next its like spring...i hope the weather drops for a whole week so i can get it checked out again...

i have the same noise too with the injen cai. when its cold out, rattles are much louder. my windshield also makes some sort of rattling like a loose screw is vibrating or someting, but i think i hav an idea of wat it is. i think its the plastic piece that goes over ur windshield and the wipers hold it down. when i got my car fixed stupid dealer didnt clip it on right and on the drivers side, the clip is above the windshield instead of below it.

no i know what you're talking about with the cai making that clicking noise..got used to that sorta. but the noise im talking about is like whenever im in D, and stopped at a light or something, this duh duh duh duh rattling noise comes up and goes away and comes back. it only happens when im in D and at a complete stop. taking it in sometime this week to get oil change, the tsb's, and that checked out.
