    Default Fins, Fins, Fins!

Hey, thanks for posting such a nice description on how to remove the fins. My 2005 tC rattles a lot (rear hatch only) and I'm looking forward to trying this out to eliminate that problem once and for all (hopefully). However, I have the side airbags, so I hope removing the fins won't be a problem. I also though that even better than removing the fins, you might just add some soft material (i.e. foam or weather stripping) the the edge of the fins to eliminate possible banging between plastic and metal.

I tip on detecting rattles: Purchase a stetoscope (the one docs use to listen to your internal organs) and have a friend (who also likes to play doctor) sit on the back, or wherever the rattle may come from, and try the stetoscope in multiple spots until the noise gets really loud. Once you found that spot there won't be a doubt in your mind of where the noise is comming from and you will have a much better chance at fixing it.

I was also thinking about just putting the foam that they use for door insulation behind the fins but to get access to the fins like that, you would have to take off the headliner. You would have to be super careful taking of the headliner because it creases easily.

    Hi Alex,

I am unable to find the fix in the articles sections. can you guys post a link. I have scion tc 07 and the rattle came in around 20k miles. It feels like the car is gonna tear apart every time i go over a bump or a rough road. Took it to the dealers twice and whatever fix they did worked only till i exited the dealership .

Hey guys I had the same problem with my 2007. I have the rear sway on the stiff setting on the hotchiks and I hear the popping in the roof and the hatch rattles a lot. I was lookin on this site and there is a counter weight in the hatch that is held in with three big bolts. (random) I took it out. The hatch opens a lil faster and lil more effort to close but the rattle is significantly less to almost none. The weight is a bracket the has a weight suspended with rubber on each side. I see that it helps in closing the hatch but not sure why its there since the weight can move around.

    Hope this helps you guys!!
