Default Rattle Fixed!!!

Well after 20k miles on my car, I started to develop a metallic rattling in my trunk and a popping sound in my roof. Took it to the dealership not expecting much (after reading horror stories elsewhere), but much to my suprise it was all fixed. It sounds like the day I bought my car and drove it home. According to the paperwork they did a TSB on the rear hatch panel and replaced it. They also tightened the screws for the roof and lubed the moonroof tracks. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up if you start to get a rattle too.

did your rattles always happen, or sometimes did you hear them, and other times not?

My rattle generally occured anytime the body started to flex like rough roads or going up into a driveway.

I've been doing some thinking lately about this subject. My rattle generally had to do with the flexing of the vehicle body when I went up driveways or ledges. Suppose you were two "stregnthen" the body with strutbars, I wonder if that would reduce or eliminate the problem? Anyone with strutbars who can comment?

I have the DC Sports strut bar and Progress rear sway bar. Does nothing for rattles. I just try to ignore it. If it gets bad I will take it to the stealership

Just to give you guys an update, my rattle came back and got worst than before. I decided to tackle the problem myself and I think I've found a solution. It's been a couple days and everything seems to be going well, but I want to give it a little more time to verify that I solved the problem. I'll keep you guys updated.

i took mine in to do that tsb..they ended up replacing the hydraulics that hold the hatch up. they gave me really weak ones that dont even lift the hatch up. i have to physically push it up. on top of that the rattles got worse! imma take it back to see what's up..

Well I've done two rattle fixes that have pretty much removed all the rattles in my car. I still have a popping sound that I assume is the screws holding the sunroof, but I haven't had time to completely take out my roof panel. I've posted the first of the rattle fixes in the articles section. I'll have the second rattle fix up soon.

Ok guys I've posted my second rattle fix in the articles section. This is the fix that finally took care of it. Two months and counting and I'm rattle-free.

Alex,

The rattle fix where you removed the plastic clips from the side of the headliner was the fix for the rear area rattle right?

I noticed a rattle somewhere near the rear when I drove my wife's Tc when I hit small bumps, it almost sounds like the rear hatch (door) is loose.

It could be one of two things. It could very possibly be those plastic clips or it could be the wiring that is connected to the rear hatch. If you pull the plastic panel on the rear hatch near the top, you'll see the wire loom that runs to the third brake light. I've heard that the wire loom sometimes hits the hatch.

I have actually been rattle free ever since I did my fixes, I'm pretty happy at this point.

Tks, going to try the wire loom first, hope to solve it B4 having to do the plastic clips. Tearing the liner out on a car that has less than 500 miles on it scares me.

if you can pinpoint where the rattle is coming from, we might be able to give you some suggestions. Otherwise, see the previous posts if any of those might work.

Question well.....

Its got to be the hatch. Its rattles sooooo loud on any bumps. My music is always up soooooo loud so i dont hear it. Little things like that drive me insane!! I tried to find the sound but it just sounds as if the hatch isnt closed all the way, even though i know it it.
