Default tC questions.

i joined this forum cause i couldn't seem to find the right answer to my questions. the answer im looking for is probably around here i guess im just to lazy to go and find it. anyways my questions:

1. i am 6'0" even, would i have any problems with leg room or head room?

2. ive read some reviews on the scion tC's the autos are nice, but then some people have been complaining about the manual transmission, whats so bad about it?

3. is there anything on the stock tC's that should be replaced? (tires, transmission, etc.)

The seat is fairly adjustable, it goes up and down as well as forward and back. I'm only 5'8 so I can't say I know it would fit you. Best thing is to try it out.

I don't know of anything wrong with the manual transmission. Its got decent gearing and shifts well. What specifically have they been saying about it?

The tires could use an upgrade. You could replace a lot, but it all depends on what you want to accomplish.

The seat is really adjustable I'm 6'3" and have no issues fitting

The Manual is the best way to go its really solid and If you don't like it you can always put in a quick shifter

Scion was bulit for you to make it your own have fun with it and replace what ever you want

in some public review site, some dude says the transmission isnt as solid as some other ones.

something about the clutch working with hydrolics instead of a cable or something like that.

and some other things i heard were like;

the tc is to heavy,

it has a wide turning radius,

and it has huge ass blind spots.

but those dont really bother me cause im not going to go out there and race. i just want it cause it has my damn innitials xD

and its a good looking car too boot. thanks sciondantc your 6'3" and that clears my mind of any room based problems!

It doesn't sound like these are reliable sources.
I would like to see some reason for them thinking the transmission is not solid, I have not heard of any real problems with it. The stock clutch can handle about 300 HP. Most clutches are hydraulic there is nothing wrong with it.

The turning radius is great. Here are some numbers to compare:
Turning radius
Scion tC - 18.1'
Honda Civic Si - 17.8'
Toyota Tacoma - 20'

The weight isn't an issue either. I'll use the same cars to compare.

Scion tC - 2905 lbs.
Honda Civic Si - 2886 lbs.
Toyota Tacoma - 3865 lbs.

Blind spots have not been a problem for me. I drive about 120 miles a day mostly on highways, and I have never not seen someone.

There is a small blindpsot cause by the long, sweeping A pillar that obscures objects down low in the inside of a tight left turn. For example, curbs and other short objects when making tight turns into a parking lot or on a street. Keeping this in mind mainly mitigates this risk, but a good set of cornering style driving lights in the vent pods takes care of that issue.

The hydraulic actuated clutch complaints is somewhat erroneous. What the reviewers are actually experiencing to their disliking is the clutch pedal travel. It does have alot of travel for a sport coupe, but not so bad that it is a drudgery to operate. The clutch also has alot of "spring" to it that requires you to feather it in, instead of, just releasing it quickly. The motor has alot of low-end torque which catches some people off-guard who think the tC is an econo-box. They should stick with the auto. It is a different feel, but in no time you will get the feel of it. If you do plan on racing, move you seat forward 2 clicks from your normal seating to where you have to really bend your legs while on the pedals. This will negate the clutch pedal travel allowing you to make quick shifts w/o crunching the gears.

The Scion tC set the pace for all other OEM tuner platforms in it's class; Cobalt SS, Civic Si, Acura RSX, Sentra Spec-R, etc. There is yet a car that gives more quality, options, or bang-for-the-buck than the Scion tC.

thanks navy. sounds like the little problem i was worrying about arent that big of a deal.

i think the only real things i might change right away would be the tires. other than that the tC sounds like a fricken awesome deal.

btw, are there any significant changes in the 08, in terms of performance?

Nope, pretty much the same. There were some refinements made to the ECM programs that netted 1BHP. Mostly done for emissions.

if people think a Tc has a wide turning radius they should drive an RSX, they have horrible turning radius. I own both cars.

My boyfriend drives my TC and he is 6' 4" and he doesn't have any problems at all. He says it's comfortable to drive. Hey, he drove 4 hours to the beach and didn't complain at all.

I'm 6'2" and the only issue i have is the steering wheel doesn't telescope so i have to lean my seat up just a little more than in my accord. Other than that its a great car.

this is a little late (36k miles in a year and a half!) and i have had serious problems crunching gears. my last car was an 04 sentra spec v. the car was a little faster than the tC and the "clutch travel" was definitely quicker. i have not been able to get used to this and if i get lazy shifting for a second, i miss second and even third! its annoying as **** and embarrasing. my wife thinks i should be able to get over it. i'll try moving the seat up in the meantime, but is there anything else that will help me out? stage 2 clutch?!?

You can modify the stop post for the clutch to be exactly at the engage point. I saw a how-to for this somewhere, but I forget where. They screwed a bolt in the post, adjusted it to the right point, then glued a rubber pad on the end. Then just remember that you also have to modify the button that tells the car that the clutch is in. Otherwise you will not be able to start the car.

This stops the clutch from going further than it needs to and its easy to adjust or uninstall.

Just be very careful to adjust the stop so as not to engage the clutch whatsoever. Doing so will cause wear on the thrust bearing and the clutch plate, no to mention, lowering your MPG.
