    Smile Seat belt alarm

Hey everyone! I'm new to the site.
I bought my 08 tC this weekend, and I absolutely love it for my second car! I know it's really bad to turn off the seatbelt reminders, but does anyone know how to turn off the beeping noises that go along with it? It does it a couple times if you start driving without it on, and it just won't turn off. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks

Under the seat is a grey connection that can be disconnected but if you have side impact airbags i dont know how it will affect it. Make sure you dont disconnect the yellow one because it is the side impact air bag line. You may have to remove the seat to perform this operation, it is extremely easy to take out the seat. I do it every other week when i detail the inside my car.l

    Exclamation Safety Warning

PLEASE DO NOT UNPLUG any seatbelt harness. It is an integral part of the SRS system. Doing so will prevent the Airbag Sensor Assembly Center from causing the seatbelt pretensioner from firing. This is the reason for the seatbelt reminder easter egg. As you can see from the 2007 manual, it is all integrated. Side note though, the 2005 and perhaps the 2006 models do not have the rear seat occupant classification sensors as stated in the 2007 schematics.

    SRS
∗ The system reaches an ignition judgment to deploy the following device based on the signals received from the front
    airbag sensor and deceleration sensor.
    – Driver Airbag
    – Front Passenger Airbag
    – Knee Airbag
    – Seat Belt Pretensioner
∗ The system reaches an ignition judgment to deploy the following device based on the signals received from the side
    airbag sensors.
    – Side Airbags
    – Curtain Shield Airbags
The dual–stage SRS airbag system has been used for the driver and front passenger airbags. This system controls the
optimal airbag inflation by judging the extent of impact, seat position (driver seat) and whether or not the seat belt is
    fastened (driver seat)
and information from the Front Passenger Occupant Classification System.

∗ The front passenger occupant classification system judges whether the front passenger seat is occupied by an adult or
child (with child seat) or is unoccupied, according to the load applied to the front passenger seat and whether the seat belt
is buckled. Based on the results, it restricts the deployment of the front passenger airbag, front passenger side airbag, and
front passenger seat belt pretensioner. In addition, the system informs the driver of the result of the judgment through the
use of the AIRBAG ON/OFF indicator lights.
∗ The airbag sensor assembly transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module in order to stop the fuel pump.

Like i said I dont know how it will affect the SRS on your year. I have already contacted a TOYOTA technician and for my year it will not affect the system because of the way the SRS is wired. I am not saying to do this with out asking your toyota/scion dealer.

All years have the seatbelt pretensioners. Disconnecting that plug will cause that pretensioner to not fire if so warranted by the SRS computer. Mine is a 2005 and I have them. Unless they are only installed for the side curtain airbag upgrade, all 2005 and up should have them. I would ask your techician contact what reference they used and how they determined this to not be true for 2006 models.

I asked the same question and they explained it as the whole SR System was wired on the bag sensor and the other connection was only for the seatbelt lock and reminder. They said it had to do with mine being on a certain half of the production year. I should ask some else when i go back there and see if they give the same response.

Having not torn into the harness of every year model, I cannot attest to the validity/nonvalidity of the tech's statement. Unless he can show you the wiring schematics or a tech article, I would not trust it. That is the rule of thumb that we follow in the Military; "Show me where it is written". You would be suprised at how many senior, knowledgable people there are that just regurgitate the same bad "gouge" that was told them. That is scary when you think they are responsible for teaching the younger Airmen how to operate and maintain a $60 million aircraft.

I understand what you are saying. We have the same rule in Law Enforcement. The only reason I ever asked the Tech, was that I went through and detailed my car removing the seats and I missed the seatbelt and the alarm never sounded. Of course I reconnected it once I figured out what was going on. So I ask if it would hurt it leaving it out for that time and that is when he gave me that answer.

If you look at the diagrams above closely, you will find that there is no "safe" method of removing. You will have to decide if circumventing the SRS system is worth the no ding. You could take out the Instrument Gauge Cluster and remove the small surface mount buzzer. That would allow everything to work normally, however, your door open and key reminder will no longer have any audible warning.

ok thank you. i did find something about a sequence of steps with the trip button and buckling the seat belt and some how doing these steps would shut it off. I havent tried it yet but what do you think?

I tried the sequence and it did not work for me. I tried holding the odometer button for varying times from 10 to 60 seconds. No go. I think the procedure is for models prior to 07.

i dont see the point in disconnectin that seat belt warning. just wear the seat belt - or if it's that big a deal, just wait the 20 seconds or so for it to stop beeping. really? it's not that serious. besides, seat belts save lives!

go to a garage or somewhere, ask if they have any crap belts and clips lying around, cut it off the belt if its still on it, and leave it clipped in. with the amount of traffic and number of bad drivers on the road, my suggestion like the person above me, just wear the thing. it could save your life. its saved mine.
