Hmmm... I have a K&N SRI, and I'm at 312 miles on this tank, with 1/4 tank left. 240 of those miles were highway, but I will probably end at 360-380. This is NOT unreasonable for this car! I'm wondering though, this is better mpg than I've gotten in the past 6 months, and I pumped 87.5 octane at Shell. Never knew that there even was 87.5 octane... lol

A lot of this has to do with driving style.

If you want to stretch your MPG, you're going to have to learn to lighten your foot.

Revving/mainting and/or shifting out at 2.5k, or 3k RPM's is only half the battle.

If you're flooring the accelerator to get to 2.5k, or 3k, you're doing yourself a disservice if you're trying your best to stretch your MPG.

You need to keep the RPM's low, but you also need to understand that light footedness on the gas pedal pays divedends.

I have a manual TC 2008 ..its my baby..and I baby it along now ( The 1st month I blew it along!) I drive to save gas and can easily get 340 out of a tank...I think its all about how you drive...yes if I race her off the block I'm not going to get that return, but I look after her now and she looks after my pocket!..I think maybe having the manual definitely helps..

Hey guys well its been 1 week since i have gotten the car and i have amazing news i got 411miles on a tank of 87 octane (waited for the gas light to come on). I drove 60% highway 40% city.

I wasnt hard on the accelerator nor the brakes, tried to time every light so i let my momentum carry me and i would not shift over 2000rpm.... (insanely quick shifting)... I went from a 1990 miata to a tc so even shifting at 2000 rpm is a luxury in this car..

hypermilers.com .... it gives you tips on how you can better your mileage... i use a tactic called "pulse and glide" - ease on when there is enough momentum to carry you or gently accelerate when you need to.

I think my goal is to get 430miles, i will keep you posted

P.S. I was thinking maybe Canada gets a better grade gasoline cause all your numbers are shockingly LOW.

    Good luck

    2005 tC. I'm currently getting about 350 MPG/tank.

Anyone know what mods improve MPG?

New record for a tank of gas to the brim. 430miles on a tank of 53L. Still had 2L of reserve left. I will attempt to get 450miles next week.

i think you could get a chip and tune it for better mpg. but there may be tradeoffs like decreased hp.

I usually get 333. I mostly do highway driving, but I am also doing 70+ sometimes. I just started doing 60, and I modded the stock intake, and put a K&N airfilter in. So we will see with this tank.

Also while I am here. I have one tire that is mismatched. The other 3 tires are stock, and the little sticker on the inside of the car reccomends 32psi for the stock tires. So what do I do for the mismatch one, because the max psi on that one is 50. Do I put 32 on the mismatched one, or do I got to 45?

The recommended and the max are different(closer to max improves gas mileage of course, but results in a bumpier ride), but I'm unsure what the max is on the stock tires. It's about time for me to replace mine anyway.

I can get about 413 @ 65mph in my 06 5 speed. Now, take note this is until the car runs out of gas. As far as I'm concerned I can thank royal purple 5w30 for this gas mileage.

Make sure you put the mismatched tire on the back or you'll ruin your drivetrain.

Royal Purple (or other synthetic) in the crankcase and transmission is always a start for better MPG. Keeping your tires inflated to 32 PSI is another easy one. Also, keeping your car clean and waxed will help with hwy miles. Run with your windows up and A/C on low or off. The slicker the airflow around the car, the better. Also, ground effects (spoilers, canards, and big rear fascias disrupt airflow. Lowered cars or extended side-skirts improve airflow.Keep the junk outta your trunk.

Weight; that big subwoofer box or crates of water just add extra weight for the motor to pull around. Don't fill your tank unless your going on a trip. Gasoline is weight. Filling up because you saved a few cents per gallon actually costs you more. The bigger the tank, the more prevalent this is. Run with 1/2 tank for city/short haul driving. 1/4 tank if your going racing.

As for MPG friendly mods, again, anything of lightweight is good. That includes lightweight pullies, flywheel, tires/wheels, smaller battery, etc. Openoing up the exhaust with a 4-1 header, s-pipe, and hi-flow ale-back will improve hwy miles abit, but may make stop and go driving MPG the same or slightly less. CAI is also good for gas mileage.

Running gasoline with no Ethanol added will gain better MPG than gasoline with it. The Ethanol lowers the Octane Rating so the higher the mix percentage, the less energy for combustion, thus lower MPG. Running expensive 93 Octane gas should net a slight increase in MPG.

you also have to keep in mind though that when it's on "R" it still has quite a bit to go... mine at least goes alllllllllllllll the way down to the light way below the "R" line...

I overfill my tires to 38 PSI front and 36 PSI rear, and drive my car like my dad's prius...I coast alot in neutral and dont normally exceed 2500 RPMs, I have a 5 speed... I check my gas mileage every time I fill up, and get around 28 combined.

    Default My tC

My tC is pretty standard with a manual transmission. Driving the 20 or so miles to work on country roads I can usually get up to 350 miles on a tank before I fill up. I suspect this is about 27 mpg. When I've taken the car on trips I can eek out about 415 miles on a tank of fuel which is about 32 mpg. I used to own a Dodge Stratus Coupe with a 2.4 litre engine and a 5 speed... that car was good for about 35 mpg and actually came close to 500 miles on a tank - because the tank was sized for the V6 engine at 16 gallons. Before that I had a Dodge Avenger and that thing had a 2.0 litre engine and was more powerful than the Coupe but also got excellent gas mileage - easily beating 500 miles. I miss the large tank but the tC is unquestionably a better car.
