I have a 2005 tc with a manual transmission, no modifications of any kind, and am nearing 75,000 miles with it. Back when I lived in Phoenix, with a mix of freeway/street driving, and oxygenated fuel at low altitude, I got about 30mpg. Since moving out to the boonies in New Mexico, I drive almost all freeway miles at high altitude (>5000-6000 feet) and can usually get non-oxygenated fuel. I drive 40 miles one way to work, of which less than five miles are on streets, the rest being on freeways ranging from 55-75mph. I check mileage every tankful and through the summer, I reliably get better than 35mpg and at best have managed about 450 miles on a tank, nearing 38mpg.
My trip includes a 6% grade with 1000 feet altitude change and every morning I have to hit 75mph on an uphill freeway onramp or risk getting run off the road. The car spends most of its life at 3000-3500rpm. I never use cruise control and almost never turn the AC on.

Your motor must be really broke in like a diesel. It would be awesome if all 2AZ-FE motors got better MPG with age.
