I really don't get how everyone is claiming to get 400 miles. Do you people have special gas where you all live?! I got amazing mileage on my way down to Nashville earlier this month and it was closer to 370 or 380, except when I started playing around out of boredom down I-81S and hit 130 mph, oops. My foot slipped. I drive a 5spd. However, I started to get a little scared since I don't have a GPS and there would be really big stretches where I wouldn't see signs for a gas station so I tried not to push my car TOO much. It didn't seem like a great idea to get stranded in the boondocks. However, over the summer, the best mileage I got was 365. Lately, I've been getting around 340.

Gas now has Ethanol which lowers MPG. Keeping your car below 70MPH is the key and keeping your foot out of the accelerator.

I kinda figured that ethanol lowered it. I try not to drive near or above 70 too much anyway since I can't afford a ticket. Does higher octane get better MPG?

    Cool 380

the best i have got is 380 on 87 and that was it. Maybe using 89 and changing my air filter will get me up to 400 or even 410!!! i will try that later on and let you all know.

    Cool

so filling up on a higher grade of fuel such as 91 would increase mpg because it burns cleaner and is more refined right?
i know once you boost the engine u HAVE to fill up 91.

Well yes but you would have to be gentle with the throttle of course. Like said previously in this thread by many, if you go over 70 mph and constantly step on the gas, you will never reach the 400 mpg mark.

Hmm. I refuse to drive like a granny in my tC, no way. Although, as a joke, I was driving hunched over the steering wheel and my knees like all the way at the dash. That was painful. I'm 5'11, never doing THAT again. I did get a bunch of free stuff from doing something so terribly dumb and uncomfortable.

    Unhappy Really? over 300?

for some weird reason on my tc i get anywhere from 20-23 combined whether i drive like an old lady or like a bat outa hell. i average about 280 a tank and thats if i am running on fumes. lol. i have a stick and trd cai and trd exhaust. is there anything that i can do to boost my mpgs. i have tested everything from 87 to 91 octane gas, all the same mpg. driving like an old lady doesn't help and it just bores me to the point that i want to do this . lol. usually when i am running 70 in my car i am bout 3300 rpms which apparently is normal for a tc. idk. any help would be nice.

I drove from Klamath Falls, OR to San Fransisco, CA on cheap Arco 87. I set the cruise control at 72mph and got 31mpg.

Lately, I've been getting 27 mpg on avg. I drive on a lot of curvy roads. I have been refuelling at like 345 miles. I drive like a maniac too. I noticed that even when I drove my car really hard when I auto crossed, I got roughly the same gas mileage and my rpms were high as crap since I was too scared to leave second gear.

i think i figured out why i have been having bad mileage. i went to replace the led light in my headlight and when i removed my bumper i discovered that the filter for my cai was off. i put it back on and tightened it and we'll see how that goes. lol.

I believe the Scion Tc is designed to run on 87 octane fuel. Put 91 and it doesn't affect performance that much. Also if you have a cold air intake, aftermarket exhaust, removed the Catalytic Converter your lowering your mpg. Please correct me if i am wrong i would like to make sure i have my info right.

Correct. We only need to run 87. I, however, run 89. A cold air intake and an aftermarket exhaust are supposed to net you a couple mpg by decreasing the load on the engine allowing it to breathe easier in and out.
