Default Stupid me...

Well I told myself that I would never do this...I left my map lights on in my car. I went into work about 0630, and I got back to my car around 1640 (430 PM). Now I looked in the owners manual, and I didnt see this, but do the light turn off after so long? I am sure they do but I just want to make sure.

I thought I knew the answer but it has been so long since I drove my car, I am not sure. I do believe that there is a headlight auto-off timer. I cannot find an exact reference in the maintenance manual, but there are write-ups mention this. I do know that the headlamps turn-off with the keyless entry. This, however, can be defeated (constant on) if the the ignition key is off and the headlamp switch is turn off then back on (already on) or just on (already off).

This is what I found in the Scion Maintenance Manual. Apparently this is the "auto-off" feature in the write-ups.

Quote:
Automatic light cut off system
If the ignition key is turned to “LOCK” or
“ACC” position and the driver’s door is
opened with the headlight switch is on,
the light will be extinguished.
With the driver’s door opened, turn the
ignition on or once turn the headlight
switch off and then on, the lights will turn
on. In this case, the automatic light cut off
system will not function, so the lights will
remain on. Turn off the lights if they are
not needed.
NOTICE
To prevent the battery from being discharged,
do not leave the lights on
longer then necessary when the engine
is not running.
The 20 minutes is for the Illuminated Entry and Ignition Switch Light. I find nothing related to the headlamps shutting off to protect the battery. That does not preclude that this was not an oversight in publishing. Somebody will have to do a test.

Quote:
ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEM
When the switch is in the “DOOR” position
and any of the side doors and back
door is opened, the light will come on.
After side doors and back door are
closed, the light remains on for about 15
seconds before fading out.
However, in the following cases, the light
fades out immediately.
Side doors and back door are closed
when the ignition key is in the “ON”
position.
Side doors and back door are closed
and locked.
When side doors and back door are unlocked
using either the key or the wireless
remote control function, the interior light
will come on and remain on for about 15
seconds before fading out.

To prevent the battery from being discharged,
the light will automatically turn
off when the key is removed and the door
is left opened with the switch at the
“DOOR” position for 20 minutes or more.

I'd be willing to do the test for us. I checked my battery this morning, and I still have the Red dot, and the blue circle. So I guess is all good... hopefully.

So you manually left your lights on by turning off then back on or did you just not lock the keyless entry?

Yeah I turned them on, and then got out of my car, and locked the doors, with the keyless entry. I dont know what I was thinking.
