Default I hate SUV owners and this is why

They get HORRRIBLE gas mileage and that means they use more gas. If you ever took economics you would know that the higher the demand for a product the higher the price. If every SUV owner just stopped driving theyre GAS GUZZLING vehicles could you imagine the decline in gas prices that we would experience ? WOW and this goes to OVERSIZED truck owners too who have nothing to haul and just want a big ole truck cuz its got HEMI!! You are the reason our gas prices are high. I am venting. Buy a scion damnit! haha

Better yet if everyone or like atleast 2/3rds of America rode bikes for a week instead of driving (something that would most likely never happen) gas would HAVE to go down ALOT...but then as soon as we get back to driving those big ole V8's it'l shoot right back up again.

Gas prices aren't as elastic as many people are blowing it out to be.

With the price per barrel of oil at what it is, SUV's wouldn't have a tremendous impact on the prices of gas.

Remember oil has more uses than just gasoline, it's primary use is for plastic. If you want cheaper gas prices, you need to speak with OPEC.

well i figured with the amount of vehicles on the road now a days it is relevant to gas prices going up. Especially if you notice the amount of v8's on the roads now a days. All im really saying is v8's make it more expensive for the everyone else. Instead of automobile companys concentrating on the the shortage of gas that were going to see in the near future, theyre creating vehicles even BIGGER with more powerfull engines. Why? Like its sad too because I see 4 clyinders beat 8 clyinders allll the time at the track. So if its about power or speed why dont the factories jus sell tuned up 4 cylinder vehicles ... like throw a turbo or supercharger in it and then throw it in a suv lol half the people that drive big vehicles have no clue as to what kind of engine they even have. fools i tell you! I hear that in certain parts of europe such as Amsterdam, almost everyone rides bikes because of the gas prices being $5 a gal. I see why they laugh at us now...Cause they know what were going to riding on one day and it aint got 4 wheels. Think about it now over there, theyre cars are mostly 4 cylinder too so even with that theyre gas prices are still super high....

As an SUV owner, I disagree... I have a GMC Yukon, 12" lift, 37" tires, supercharged 383 ci, etc... I get 14 mpg, yes it is poor, but there are vehicles on the road that get worse. Many import "tuners" are getting poor mileage too and are a large percentage that complain about gas guzzleing V-8's. I have a Camaro that dynoe'd @ 547 hp at the wheels and gets 24-26mpg on the freeway and still passes Calif. smog . Please don't stereotype SUV's as all poor mileage gas price raisers. The fuel prices are more effected by tree huggers than anything, well that and greed by the big companies.

Your defence for it being ok to drive a 14MPG car is that there is much worse out there? Can you elaborate on this treehugger theory?

I need no defence on driving my truck, if it got 6mpg, I'd still drive it. I could care less what others think....My truck and all others like it are NOT the reason for high fuel prices. Elaborate on the tree huggers, I truely think everyone is well aware with that, treehuggers are (every one I have been in contact with, maybe not all) a bunch of hypocrites. If driving a car hurts the envoronment so much, why the heck are they driving? If they believe in this issue so firmly, they should practice what they preach. I am not going to get in a debate over this, I am new to the site and don't need to start any BS. I am sorry if you are against SUV ownership, that doesn't make me lose any sleep at night. I will enjoy mine each and everytime I drive it. Throw the kids in the back, put in a DVD and enjoy....

    Jason

Again, sorry if I come off offensive,I sure don't mean to, just giving my side of SUV ownership

Never will everyone agree on everything

I am not arguing, just stirring a conversation. I do not hate SUVs, I do disagree with being wasteful. If you do not need an SUV I do not agree with owning one. If you use an SUV (or any vehicle for that matter) for its purpose, as you seem to do, then I encourage that ownership. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the option to not drive. There is nothing wrong with those people then asking other people that do have the option to choose it.

    Good topic to explore....

Aschle has a point; there are alot of hypocrites out there. "Ooh, I drive an electric car. I am Green". What a farce as the plant manufacturing that car created emissions, the car's materials have toxins in them (aka batteries), and electricity is most likely coal-fired or nuclear.

As for the plethora of V-8's on the American roads, think back to 1974. Remember that awesome Mustang II with it's 2.3L SOHC I-4 or optional Mach 1 2.8L V-6? Both anemic a best but a sign of the pending doom of the American Muscle Car. This down trend of weak I-4 and V-6 powerplants reigned until the late 80's when GM and Ford began beefing up their V-8 options. Americans car lovers a have V-8 appetites. The rebirth of the Muscle cars in a time when gas hit well over $4 per gallon is proof of that.

The forays that the Big 3 had in the forced induction market were dismal save the Neon SRT-4. There were others like the Eagle Talon and the Ford SVO, but none had the success of the SRT-4. Cracked manifolds, burned up turbos, blown motors, little warranty, and poor gas mileage left a bad taste in the American car market. It has taken the EVO's and the STi's along time to bring turbos back in the limelight. The American car market is slow to change and the V-8 is seen as the pinnacle of power.

All said and done, it is about money and power. Why does the diesel not run on biomass fuel as it was designed to do in 1893? How come the electric car that originally predates (1835) the combustion engine is considered new tech? Where did all of the electric street cars and trolleys go from the big city's across the US? Big Oil in cahoots with the Big 3 directed the world to become oil dependent. No conspiracy, just business.
