Default Used TC price ridiculous

I think its freakin ridiculous that people are selling their TC's for more than a brand new one costs. I understand people dont want to lose the money they spent on tax and license and whatnot but seriously ive seen a used tc for 18k. Anyone else think this is ridiculous.

In some areas I heard there might be 3-4 months waitting line to get a new one. Maybe that is the reason or maybe those cars are customized. CAn't say I mind although I plan to drive mine to the ground

You ain't lyin' about ridiculous used prices. I've gone on craigslist.com and autos.yahoo.com to check out this theory of ridiculous prices for used tCs and noticed that some of them cost more than a brand friggin' new '06 tC! I've seen a tC with 40,000 miles on it but goes for $17,500.00 because of the TRD catback exhaust and AEM cold-air intake, and those are the only mods to the car! Now come on. The exhaust and intake mods are about $1200 total, but that isn't enough to make up for 40,000 miles. I basically bought a brand new 06 tC and modified it a little bit at a time like normal people do. Scions, Hondas, Acuras, man, they're so easy to modify and affordable to customize yourself. These peeps who sell pre-customized tCs are just trying to rip off naive drivers who are too naive to fix up a car themselves. Just my opinion that's all!

Question

What about a 2005 TC, automatic with less than 2000 miles on it, in near new condition and whole list of more mods than just those two? (around $4500 worth) And, what if the owner can get the buyer fully financed the same as a dealer can for around $19,500 or would take a cash price or self financed price of around $18,500? Is this ridiculous too? A very curious, yet honest question. Let me know what you think!

The problem with selling cars with upgrades is that those upgrades turn more people away than attract. Most people want to modify their cars themselves. There is also a concern that the previous owner may have raced out the car. Although its not unfair to charge higher when a car comes with upgrades, selling a car like that will be much more difficult.

I would put my car back to stock and sell the parts seperately. You'll prolly get the most bang for the buck that way.

Very good point there. Not everyone wants a riced-out rocket with a cannonballturret for an exhaust tip that begs cops to pull you over for a fix-it ticket because anything louder than 95db is illegal and a ridiculously oversized tailwing may seem a bit too much to a driver who just like simplicity (I always thought that these particular add-ons made cars look really silly..... aside from being very fast of course), some people just want a quiet sporty looking coupe, which is what a stock tC is, simple yet sporty.

I can relate to the Scion with 40,000 miles being $17,500. I had to wait like 6 months before i was able to see a scion in person where i live. The first used scion tc i seen had 10,000 miles on it and the sticker price was over $19,000 with tax,title,etc.. Used!!!! I was able to talk them down luckily and bought it. It's been the best vehicle i've ever owned but what these dealerships try to get out of used tc's is crazy!!

thanks guys for your input. i really appreciate it. this is actually my car and i am selling it. i am just trying to get an idea of fair pricing for both buyer and seller. now i will need to consider selling the car as it is or selling some of the accessories seperate. we'll see.

I was thinking of getting a used tc but the cost is almost as much as a new tc so i decided to just get a brand new one.

Its pretty amazing how owners can justify their used tc to be worth more than a brand new one.

im gonna argue with some of you. aftermarket parts lower the value, or is supposed too. when someone puts aftermarket items such and cold air intakes, it just makes me think they dogged it out.
