Default The 5 spd. tc vs. the AT tc

Hello im planing on ordering a new scion tc within the next month and i was wondering if the 5 spd. is a good choice for the scion over the AT tc. also, if it is, what are some of the better aspects of the 5spd. or the AT. I will greatly appreciate all of your posts to this thread. Thanks

Are you looking for speed?

supercharger is only for the manual transmission tC

unless you want to get turbo for the automatic transmission

Other than that, I think 5spd got quick acceleration and is cost less.

Actually the supercharger is available for automatics. It requires a fit kit that costs like $40. The fit kit consists of an oil dipstick and a few shims

Default 5spd is way better,

well, i am now looking to sell it as i am relocating (which is the worst thing, i hate letting go of that car) but yes the 5spd is way better than a manual.

I own a 5 speed... here are the performance issues that I dislike about it:

Gear ratio! 1st gear is ridiculously over-torqued and seems to not match the rest of the tranny. This is great if you like to burn rubber and heat up your tires but that isn't very cool in front wheel drive cars. 5th gear is about right, although half the time i wish I had a 6th for RPMs sake (or have the ratios spreadout a little more).

Although I am ranting, the Manual Tranny will always be 10x better than AT.

Then the only reason it's better is because it's a manual??? if you're getting s/c or turbo your're better off w/ an auto because you never really loose much boost between gears because your're foot is on the peddle all the time

The stock bosch BPV makes absolutely no noise that I ever could hear. The TurboXS unit made a perceptible noise, but very quiet and only under certain loads.

I would have to say that if your auto beat a manual from a dead stop, it was definately driver error. The auto does not have the low-end torque build up and that is what you need to launch. At higher gears, I could see the auto havign the upper hand with the manual's 3rd gear weakness. Either way, a win is a win. Driver or car, the only way to know for sure is to take it to the track.

It is usually near the TB but can be anywhere between the compressor and the TB depending on your setup.
This is the best I can do. My car is on the other side of the world right now.5-spd-tc-vs-tc-turboxs-rbv-25a.jpg

I have driven both, without super charger. I own a Manual 5spd. If you are good with a stick shift go with a 5 spd, otherwise you will be burning rubber every time you take off if you're not experienced. The automatic seams too docile and doesn't feel that aggressive. I love the stick shift it keeps me awake on the road (laterally). All depends on the driver.

Better tires help a bit. What is everyone's launch technique? Some guys around NOLA have adopted the full RPM launch method to get it into 2nd ASAP after the launch. It seems to work on their I/H/E cars beating most stock vehicles rolling around. I did a 4K launch on virgin concrete and it was dismal, but that was before my tune when my car would bog on the launch.

The airhorn (exhaust) of the BOV has to be removable or be able to be modified to allow the connection of a 1" hose. The Greddy RS has a removable airhorn that allows you to unscrew and replace w/ 1" hose barb.
