I fixed your hyperlink, it was dead.
Hey now, I am 40. You young'ns gots to start driving better. Your killing my old fart premiums. This is also why my insurance company does not know that my 2nd Scion tC is actually driven by my 19 year old Son. Oops, did I say that out loud?
While it is true that alot of tC owners have no experience behind the wheel as new car drivers, the tC is a very safe and reliable platform. I have seen roll-over tC's that hardly had any damage to the them and the occupants were unscathyed. The insurance industry has been overly quick to "total out" the car and sell it for pennies on the dollar at auction. I have seen way too many "totaled" wrecks that could have been easily fixed.
The reason that I surmise is that they consider this an inexpensive vehicle that could have major hidden damage or too many problems that can be resolved from heavy collisions and roll-overs. They are completly wrong in this regard and need to school those given that advice. Crunching financial figures and not hard facts. If I was to even put the tC on that list, it would only be at #10.

Whoa, don't push me off the cliff just yet! I was stating view points from the perspective of the financial institutions of big insurance. Yes, I lump these guys with the big oil companies. They are out to make a buck, anyway they can.
On the flip side though, many young drivers have poor driving skills not of their own faults, but that of the people who taught them. I went to Sears driving school so that I could drive the new "*****'n" camaro. My first accident was in direct relation of what I was taught. I followed what they said, to the letter. What they did not teach me properly was that the other drivers do whatever he heck they feel like. Blamo! Others, like my Son are taught by their parents. Fortunately, his Mother taught him well. Of course, he is out there street racing, but he only does it under paramaters that I have deemed safe for him to do. Driving a Scion tC he is of course going to get challenged and will eventually take them on.

I would never push you off a cliff lol. And as per the lumping, I was talking about tC drivers. Just stating that I don't think we are all bad drivers.
The story about the first wreck is pretty funny. They never teach you that in any school. I didn't have the luxury of being taught. I basically have picked up all my skills on my own. I'm a natural. I haven't done any street racing though. I know my car is stock and slow. Now, that doesn't mean I won't take somebody on the interstate...Done that many times and am yet to lose even once. *knock on wood* Being a small and agile car really pays off there. Most guys that I've raced though won't take it over 100mph
. Note: I do not condone street racing of any kind. It is dangerous and could get you and other drivers killed.

True that.

Did ne one notice the ten least expensive cars are all "old people" cars. what's with old people in mini-vans ne ways?
hmm i don't pay that much for my insurance.. but then again i am on my mom's insurance and without her car on there, it's only like $200.. sometimes maybe $180.

im 18 and im on my own insurance and im only paying 190 a month.
Got both beat. Just turned 33, I pay $72 a month.
I read that list a few months ago too.
Here's the thing... The TC is up there also because the car is marketed towards young people (easy to mod the car), and the insurance company's are out to gouge us as a result of that.
There are always other circumstances for anyone that can result in a higher or lower than normal rates, regardless of how a car is rated on a list such as this. I am fortunate to have a low rate for a few reasons:
1. I am a home owner and have a rebate on my car as a result
2. Have been with my insurance for a very long time and have a relationship with them (you'd be surprised how far an occasional casual phone call to them will get you)
3. Rates go down a bit when you hit 25 or 30 in Illinois, can't remember which. Varies from state to state.
4. My driving record is clean as a whistle. This helps TREMENDOUSLY, as to Navy and Redneck's point. Living in Chicago, I drive a LOT, and yet I have never been in an accident and have been lucky to only get a few tickets (despite hitting 120 in the TC a few times LOL).
i pay $200 a month also because my car's has EVERYTHING on it since technically it's not mine yet. i'm stuck on a 6yr loan, but once when it's over, which i'm gonna try and kill it in the 2.5yr range my insurance will prolly go down to like 80 bucks a month - it did with my mom's Corolla when she finally got it all paid off.
and yeah i agree with that statement about the tC being for the younger crowd and the insurance companies being poofaces about that...

yeah the age in new york that your premimums go down is 25. since im 18 im at the top of the risk list lol. and like shody said since i have a loan i need full coverage liability and collision and all that other bs. my driving record is also clean as a whistle. Never had a ticket or accident. (i have been pulled over several times but i got out of them because they wernt that serious i think the worst i got caught doing was 70 in a 55)
I am still financing my car as well. Just bought it about a 16 months ago. I have full coverage as well, and I STILL only pay $72 a month LOL.
If you have a clean record, keep it up. This pays off when you hit 25 or 30 (depending on your state) and they evaluate this.
Keep a clean record. Don't get in any accidents (or major traffic violations) between 23-25 years of age. Get married. Buy a home. Don't switch insurance providers.
Do those and your premium will go down. I'm 24 (one more year til my insurance drop... I can't wait), married, own a home, and for $130 I have full coverage on my tC, partial coverage on my wife's 2000 Accord, and two drivers on the insurance (my wife and me). It could be lower, but I got into a major accident when I was 16 and I am STILL paying a higher premium because of it... T_T
When I got my car (which was about 2 weeks ago) I called my insurance company to get a quote and it was like $230 a month, which is WAY more than I was expecting to pay.
Well, while I was still at the dealership freaking out I got online and got other quotes. I am not paying about $160 per month. Which really does save a lot of money in per year. I am also 19 year old female (which I guess matters since most guys pay more, or at least I assume) with nothing on my driving record at all. I have a 3 and a half year loan, which is partially why it is still a little high.
WOW.
That's insanely high. I can't imagine paying that much.
When I said before that I was paying $72.00 a month, I forgot to mention that this INCLUDES my second winter car.
Prior to the scond car, I paid $63.00 a month LOL. Full coverage on the TC.
I pay about 150 for my portion of the insurance, clean record and on my parents policy. When I first started driving, I quoted my 1995 Ford Ranger with 500,000 miles on it... all the insurance companies i saw wanted me to pay an outrageous amount of $500 a month JUST FOR THE TRUCK WITH MINIMUM INSURANCE!!! I told them they were crazy and didn't get any insurance for a while
i got a quote with allstate online and with my accident and speeding ticket back in 06 they quoted me at $173 a month... which is cheaper than my mom's. but i'd wanna wait till i'm 25 before going out on my own insurance, it'll be cheaper then my mom said

so long as you have a 2-year clean record before you turn 25, then yes. otherwise, you would have to wait longer
When I got the $230/month quote I almost started to cry. I had literally just signed all the papers to buy the car, and then they slammed that one on me. I wasn't expecting it to be ANYWHERE near that high. But thankfully the cardealer that I bought from was nice and helped me and my mom find cheaper quotes.
