lol are you sure your turning the correct direction? The object in motion is upside-down, so most people can get mistaken. An oil filter wrench shuld get the sucker off in a couple of seconds. Is your ratchet like a teeny weeny one? Lol, the longer ratchet=more torque.. Maybe try laying down and using your leg power.

As for oil and oil filter questions... K&N is a good brand, but when it gets down to it, its overpriced. Where im from its like 10 bucks, but its basically just a regular OEM filter with a nut stuck on top. Now as much as i regret mentioning this because im starting my own store and I will sell K&N products at dirt cheap... You should try trdsparks.com. You could buy 10 filters for like 30 bucks? (too lazy to check) Which means one filter is like 3 dollaaa!! All you need is a regular toyota oem filter. Unless you're like super boosted with special needs.

As for oil, I used mobil 1 back in the day on my older cars and loved it, because it was a pretty good full synthetic oil for the price. I think about a year ago I read something about them changing their formula. For some reason I just didnt like it on my tc. of course its better than conventional, but for a couple bucks more I went with Redline. All i can say is its, the shiiiyettt. Car idles wayyy smooother and quieterrr. Seriously a difference wether im driving in day or night, hot or cold.

As for the Viscosity of the oil.. im pretty sure 05-06 oil cap would say 05w-30 yet 07's and up would use 20's. The oil is lighter meaning it should give you more performance, but less viscosity. Car manufacturers started to recommend less viscosity because its more efficient to produce environment wise. I would show sources for all my info, but im stuck doing work. Im sure alot of scion owners wonder why the recommended oil viscosity has changed even tho the engines are the same.

Default which oil to be used

Any body knowswhat is the best oil to use for our beloved tc engine. As of now i am putting in Royal Purple. I do tend to drive my car alittle rough. It depend on the day and who is next to me. I have heard some rumors on this oil but still went ahead a used it. I try to change my oil on or close to every 3000 - 350o miles. If there is a better oil out there please let me know. thanks.

There is in fact a better oil out there. However, with great oil, comes a great price.

This is the oil that I use and I absolutely love it. However, it is $9.10 a quart...

    Default oil filter

As far as the oil filter goes a k&n filter is fine. I have an 06 tc and i use the TRD performance filter that i get from the dealership. you can also get it from TRDSparks.com. keep in mind that the filter is not pricey but the shipping from them is. So if you have a dealership close u should get it from them instead and save the money on shipping. As oil goes I use royal Purple but I am going to stop because of some problem i have heard of. I am not haveing any problem at this time but rather be safe than sorry. I think i am going to go for amsoil to give it a shot. Also If u want a complete kit look at Dezod.com in the maintenance section. it is the same oil they use in there prototype tc. It come with oil plus filter for a little bit over $45.00 not including shipping.

You can't pick an oil just because of where it's made lol.

I'm curious as to what rumors you've heard about Royal Purple. I bought the free oil change for life deal when I got my car. I just use the stuff the dealership uses. Is this bad news bears?

    Default Royal Purple

The main rumor that concerned me were about blown head gaskets. I have not heard anything bad about it being used in our engines. For as the blown head gasket it could of come from abuse or it was just old in the beginning. I had asked but never got a respons back. Again i still have it in my car as we speak and knock on wood no problems. On top of that I change my oil on or very close to 3000 miles. And No I am not saying anything bad about it just because on where it came from LOL. My main focus was if anybody else has heard the same thing or is all of this crap. I have only heard it from on source and i looked it up on line and couldnt find anything. that is why i am not rushing out to change my oil. I would like more proof. So till then i will keep it in the engine and if something comes up between now and 2500 mile later I might change what oil i use.

Oil from the dealership is fine. You don't have to use synthetic oil. Of course, you won't get the added benefits if you don't.

I like the benfits that i get and i have noticed that my gas mileage has gone up. Even though it is a small tank compaired to the truck i had i can easly get over 300 miles in the city. I want to see how many miles i can go without filling it up when i head up north this leave peroid. I would like to push over 400.

Dyno oil is OK but over time, the engine will get sludge buildup. On a properly maintained, modern engine this probably won't happen till 70K~100K miles.

Texas is the birthplace of the oil industry. Don't know where Royal Purple gets the materials to use for it's synthetic. I just support a Texas company.

I have not heard anything bad about Royal Purple. I have been using it in my tC for most of the time that I have had her since 2005. My Camry and Tundra have had nothing but Royal Purple.

So can I save, and wait till my car hits 70k, or should I start using the Royal Purple now? Are there any downsides to using this oil?

doesn't matter whn you switch to synthetic.. as long as it's not an uber old engine where the switch to synthetic would be shocking to the engine becuase it'll loosen up built up sludge from using dino oil over the past hundreds of thousands of miles.
