    Default Disable Passenger Airbags

I would like my son to be able to ride in the front seat with me but I am worried about the passenger airbags. Is there a way to disable them? I have seen this feature in many trucks that only have a front seat but I am not sure if that applies to cars with a back seat.

I agree with Redneck. Since the car has a back seat, I would use it.

But in response to your question, I'm sure there is a way to rig an airbag shutoff, but it would probably mess with the entire airbag system, as well as your car insurance (they don't like it when you disable safety features). Also, in some states (I can speak for Virginia), it is illegal to disable/remove an airbag from a vehicle that comes from the factory with them in. Hence the reason I would get ticketed if I got the Momo or Sparco steering wheel I want... T_T

It's like this. If you are worried about the passenger airbag in the first place, then he shouldn't be riding in the front with you. I know that this may come across alittle mean, but I will get that way if a child's safety is at risk. Please, just keep your son in the back seat until he is big enough to ride in the front.

Yes, keep him in the back seat... it is a LOT safer back there for him.

I would not want to rig anything up. I just wasn't sure if there was a factory option to disable the front seat airbag.

He has always sit in back but he just turned 4. I didn't think that riding in the front would be that different from riding in the back. It looks like until he is 6 (the age a booster seat is not required) he will be riding in the back seat.

    Thanks for the advise!

There is a pressure sensor in the seat that activates the passenger side airbag only if there is 100lbs or greater and I believe the seatbelt has to be fastened. The airbag indicator light under the HVAC on the waterfall will tell you when it is active or deactive. Your owner's manual has the details.
