    Default awesome - car accident

so all week long i've been thinking "i'm gonna get in a car accident" and well today... it happened.
idk what i was doing or if i glanced at the clock real fast, but when i looked at the car in front of me he was slamming his brakes on and i was going right into him. he took off and i pulled off to the side, trying my lunch on the ground cursing.
the damage isn't bad really, but i was hysterically crying cause this is my baby!!
her bumper is off her clips, the passenger headlight is broken and pushed in, and my grill popped off...

i'm so freaking bummed... just another thing to add to my depressed week.

    i believe in this now

Ouch. That hurts. Too bad the driver wasn't decent enough to own up to what he (or she) did. But, that's what insurance is for. Now would be a great oppurtunity for a badgeless grille though...

And don't be depressed. If you are feeling down, you can always lean on your fellow Scion brothers and sisters.

so.. i was looking at my damaged baby closer and i noticed the fenders were pushed back as well that's why my hood is also not sitting properly. the garnish around the base of my mirrors is broken on the ends and this is something the quick estimate person didn't notice either.
he estimated $1120 for the bumper and headlights and the radiator support.. which isn't hurt so idk about that..

so i was in a rear ending accident and just an hour ago, me and my bf in his s2k was in one. the lady in front of us with a broken taillight was sitting in the wrong turning lane, jumped forward on the green light then slammed on her brakes to go right instead of left. so we hit her and she took off..
what is wish ppl and doing a hit and run1!?1

Sorry for the run of bad luck. But like Red said, its a good time for a new grill, Consider it a forceful suggestion.

I tried to do some electrical work, but it cause me to loss my tail lights and got me pulled over twice while i was "not in appropriate mental state" but the cops let me go. So if you do try to fix it yourself don't neglect everything else lol.

I just took it to an electric guy, took care of it in 15 mins, you might prefer this alternative

so get this.. my insurance wants a $500 deductible which is prolly normal with most companies... but that's half the damage! why do we have insurance if all the money we put towards these policies aren't used? my mom's had these ppl for 12yrs... all that money she has given them shouldn't even call for a deductible...

i think my day's getting worse.

It sounds like you don't have a complete understanding of how insurance works on cars/homes/health/etc. Let me try to help ^_^

Any time you make a claim to an insurance company, there will be what's called a "deductable" or a "co-pay" (usually, co-pay is used for medical claims). This is the amount that the insured will have to pay no matter what the claim cost is. Whether it is a $500 claim or a $9000 claim, the amount will be the same (for the most part). In the case of car insurance, the insured PICKS their deductable when they sign up for insurance. The higher the deductable, the lower the monthly insurance rate. If you are not happy with the $500 deductable, then call your insurance provider and lower it to (let's say) $250. However, expect your monthly rate to jump up a good $20+ a month. Deciding on your deductable amount is a large part of deciding what insurance to go with.

In the case of your accident, you may want to think about paying it all out of pocket. If your deductable is a large chunk of the total cost, then you may want to skip insurance and avoid a future rate increase. That is why you see people driving on the roads with dented bumpers and fenders. Their deductable was a majority (or all) of the cost of the fix, so they didn't bother getting it fixed. Personally, if I had $1000 in damages and a $500 deductable, I would at least think about paying it all out of pocket. If you don't have the $1000 on hand, then go ahead and make the claim with your provider. Better to have them pay $500 than nothing at all, right? ^_^

I hope this helps your understanding of how and why deductables are what they are. In the end, it has nothing to do with how long you have been with a provider. It has everything to do with what your mother chose for your insurance options and how much she was willing to pay for her monthly coverage.

welp they found more stuff and the total damage minus my deductible is $1500 like what i guessed.
they're getting a certified bumper - not really stock - that fits and i dont like that idea but my mr fixit man is hooking me up with a stock bumper. i'm getting a free grill outta the deal and my new headlights i'm getting are from a junkyard... they better be pretty won't matter much.. i'm thinking about getting the projectors anyways, but you know. if i wanna see the car and the person wants stock, i'll at least have the stock heads.

they shouldn't make you settle for non OEM cheaper parts on your car. They should pay you the full amount to replace the broken parts with the same parts (OEM for OEM, Aftermarket for the same Aftermarket) get your quotes from the dealer to make sure you can cover the cost of the repairs.

Insurance companies will not replace aftermarket parts. Your best bet is to get GAP insurance which will cover you if the car gets totaled.

so at last i got my car back. i brought it in thursday (14th) they tell me it'll be ready monday. well saturday i get a call saying they sent us the wrong headlight, monday or tuesday you can pick it up. i call them monday, they said we'll call you right back, nada. two hours later i called them back and got teh same response "we'll call you right back" so finally i had my uncle go over to the shop bc it's his friend's shop and i'm told the part still hasn't come in and that they'll call me when it's ready...
so now wednesday comes and my uncle tells me, they just got the headlight and the cosmetics done - they just gotta do the mechanical work.
why didn't they do the mechanical work while waiting for the headlight assembly? and why didn't this place that sends them parts over night the assembly since it was their fault!?
so i finally pick up my car thursday and my blinkers are back to switching off, my car still stutters when i start her (they said i might need a new throttle). i bring her to my mechanic for him to check the codes on the start up and what not (he says it's fine but he wants me to leave the car with him so he can feel and hear what i'm witnessing)
as i'm looking at my car i notice things are off... and the more i look at it, the more it's becoming noticeable - it does not look like what i got her back in october. i understand she was in an accident, but if i had taken her to wehre my bf took his car, then she'd still look brand new.
    things that are wrong:
    • the "look-a-like" bumper is complete junk. you can feel the cheap plastic and you can feel the layers upon layers of paint on it.
    • the headlights look really nice and new but there's a problem. the corners pointing inward are loose. i looked at the driver side one and a clamp that holds them in place isn't tightened. not to mention that as i'm looking inside at the back of the assembly, my headlight bulb is popped outta it's resting place and doesn't fit nicely inside which means i'll constantly have to recheck it.
    • on the bumper there is a big clump of paint in the crease.
    • i see a huge gap still between the fenders and hood.
    • the bumper is off center. if you look at it, it's not even with the hood.
    • and then a lil detail: the towing cover circle thingy on the front of the bumper, isn't flush with the bumper at all.

i'm very annoyed with the job but i'm afraid to say something bc the guy's a family friend...
think i should go through insurance? tell them "hey, i just got my car back and it looks half assed" ??

EDIT: my bf and i just noticed the bumper's not even SW. it's yellowish.
