Hey onoitho, I had the same problem with my shift knob. I got the auto transmission with the obx classic leather knob, so I assume they mount the same way. To fix it, I got some locking washers that would fit inside the well of the shift knob and a couple nuts. Simply unscrew the knob, add a stack of washers, then place two nuts on the threading and tighten them against each other (this locks the nuts together and prevents them from loosening from vibration). If you add enough washers, when you screw the knob back on, the metal base compresses the washers against the two nuts and fits into the top of the shift knob. The mount will get very tight and may be somewhat difficult to screw down completely.

I did it about a month after I got my tC (November-ish of 05) and it's still locked up tight. (You could even add some thread locker to the threading to ensure a tight grip on the nuts.)

What "manual piece" would that be? The plastic screw cap thing?

Ok, in that case, yes, I do believe I still have it. I still recommend replacing it with a couple of nuts and some thread locker. I think they'd provide a more positive lock than any simple plastic cap.
