Default Next upgrade ...Weapon R headers or Unichip

I have a bit of dilemma. I would love to have both the Weapon R 4-2-1 headers and a Unichip Module but alas I can only afford one or the other.

Currently I have a TRD CAI and a Magnaflow Catback exhaust system. Any input that would help me decide witch way to go would be great! If you could please give me an explanation of why you would do one or the other that would be awesome as well. Thanks

Weapon R header. It'll complete your I/H/E, let your car breath a lot better, annnnnd there are no chips made for the tC that will provide you with ANY gains. None. Read anywhere on this forum, and you'll find that chipping our car is worthless, and it may even cause performance losses.

I feel your best option right now would be to go with the Weapon-R 4-2-1 header. I would also suggest giving Jet Hot a call and have the header Jet Coated. My reasoning behind this is quite simple, most headers come ceramic coated, but the coating doesn't last as long as you might think. Secondly, by having a header jet coated, it actually reduces your engine temperature more than a standard ceramic coating and helps the header last longer. Also in this case, you wouldn't need to wrap the header. The cooler your engine the more efficient and more HP/Torque it will create.

By adding a header, you'll allow for the engine to perform and breathe better, which in turn equals more horse power/torque, and less restriction on the exhaust flow leaving the engine. In turn you'll create more power with the header than the performance chip. Our engines don't really benefit from any performance chip, hence our engine work on what we call a learning curve basis. In some cases you'll find that the chip will create more issues, check engine lights, running too rich/lean. For what money your going to spend for the performance chip and what little if any gains you'll see, I wouldn't waste the money.

I appreciate the input guys. I was thinking of going with the header but just wasn't sure. I have seen a dyno for the header and havn't been able to find one for the Unichip. Based on what you guys are saying about chips, there is more than likely a good reason I can't find one and thats because the chip isn't worth buying/ doesn't do anything good.
The only thing that concerns me abou the header is losing my low end a little. Also I know I will have to get a CEL eliminator to correct the pesky check engine light that will more than likely get triggered.

I'm going to be in the same boat as you when I have my whole exhaust system overhauled from the header back. I have read that you may lose some low end power, but its all going to depend on how you have the exhaust done. Sometimes you have to sacrfice a little to gain more in other areas. On the upside, you'll gain more HP/Torque and the engine will breathe better. I never liked the low end pick up on the tC, but once you get into the mid range around 40mph it really takes off. My g/f's o5 Tiburon GT on the other hand has the low end power off the line and does really well throughout all power bands.

True, there are no chips or ECM reflashes on the market save one; the TRD S/C reflash module with the 7PSI and 440cc injector tune.

The UniChip unit for the tC is just a pre-configured piggyback controller that is PNP. As such, it has it's limitations to primarily to WOT operations. The OEM ECM will always gain back control as it learns.

If you find that your new header causes you the O2 related MIL, then you should do this.
