In my opinion most of all the intakes on the market today are made the same. The piping is made from aircraft aluminum and the piping diameter is going to be 2.5'' to 3.0''. The filers are also the same, except K&N that uses a oil treated filter that you reoil after so many miles of use. Over oiling the filter and not following the manufacturers directions can cause issues w/ the MAF sensor getting gummed up. If you get a cold-air intake, buy one that offers a dri-flow air filter. I have an AEM cold-air intake on my o6 Scion tC and I love it. I have had no problems w/ it and no CEL's. One of the cold-air intakes out there has been known to cause CEL's but I am not sure if its Fujita or Weapon-R. If I was you, I would stick w/ AEM, Injen, or K&N, or if you want to get really creative, make one from some aluminum piping, custom bend it, weld it and buy whatever air filter of your choice.

You also have the option of Short-Ram and Full Function Cold-Air. A cold-air is is going to give you a few more ponies over the short-ram, but if you are running forced induction or planning on it, then go w/ a short-ram. The air coming in closer to the ground is going to be much colder, verses the air that is being sucked in around/near the engine/header/exhaust manifold. You may even be able to find a name brand cold-air intake on Ebay for less or even a used one. Just clean the filter if you buy a used one and make sure all the parts are included.
