Default something in oil when changing

so I just changed my oil today and as I was done pouring the old oil out of the drain pan, I noticed pieces of something. Thought it was metal from the inside of the engine but when I wiped the oil off I noticed it was white and almost like plastic. Anyone know what this could be? I use mobile 1 full synthetic oil and k&n oil filters.

White and almost plastic, hmm. How big were the pieces and are they soft or hard? The only thing that comes to mind might be a timing chain follower. Not sure what material is on ours so I will have to look in the tech pub for a description.

There are a Chain Tensioner Slipper, Chain Vibration Damper, and Timing Chain Guide. These usually have a material face of a sacrificial resin material that sometimes has the look of white plastic. It is rare on a modern engine, but motors of the past had these fail often. I am not exactly sure of what material is on these parts so you might want to go to your Dealership with this.

Two other possibilities and without seeing the material, I will touch on. It could simply be part of a funnel that might have been cracked or the tamper-proof ring on the top of a quart of oil that might have fallen into the engine while servicing. For the latter, that is the reason I pull off the caps and those rings from my oil bottles.

The last possible reason could be material from the K&N oil filter. It might have been contaminated (at the factory or the store) or could have been faulty in some manner.

ha! I just realized that its prob paint from the oil filter that scrapped off. I use a clamp with teeth to get the oil filter off. Prob just fell in the drain pan. Thanks for replying.
