    Default engine immobilizer light NOT blinking 2006 tc

    had to get a new key made/programed by a locksmith today.the immobilizer stays on solid when the key is out and blinks inconsistently when in.the guy i got the car from is mailing me the other set of keys that the car came with.my questions are 1.will the old key work and 2.do i have a problem to the point that i NEED to take it to the dealer?THANKS FOR ANY INFO ANYONE CAN GIVE ME ON THIS.this is my first car thats not 15 years old.only had it a week and i really dont want to mess the car up.

    The locksmith either did not program or programmed the new key incorrectly. It requires use of the Toyota Intelligent Test to query the Transponder Key ECU. The blinking is a code from the Immobilizer system for an error reading the key most likely. You will need to count the pattern of the light. Also, you may have a MIL so that DTC will need to be read and then cleared.

    Do you still have one of the Master Keys (w/ fob)? It is required for the following. If not, then it will be an expensive trip to the Dealership.

    1. Using remaining key, erase key code of lost key (key ID erasure)
    2. Register additional keys as necessary (additional key ID registration)
