Default maint required light

someone help me out here. my car just five thousand miles and as soon as it did the typical maint light came on. i was wondering if anyone knew how to reset this light without having to take the car back to the dealership.

Try this.
With the key to off.
hold your trip button.
Then turn your key to on just so the lights on the dash light up and keep holding the trip button for 5 sec. (but not with the engine running).
Then you will see the 5 lines on the dash count down.
Then start the car and it will be gone.
