    Default Aftermarket steering wheel

I wana get a nice little aftermarket steering wheel, but i want to be able to change from the stock one WITH an airbag, to the aftermarket one for autocross and such. Is it hard to take off the stock one and put a new one on, and go back and forth? I do have a new head unit, so the controls in the steering wheel are now useless to me.

switching back and forth from no airbag to airbag..

would be impractical, and too much work.
i won't stop ya if you still wanna do it though.
    LEDs.... yay!

Does anyone know of a solid aftermarket brand? What about the quick release mechanism? Does anyone have this one their car? I think it'd be cool to have the removable steering wheel. Also, it'd be a good theft deturrant. Anyone?

NRG makes the quick release and some steering wheels.

The cruise control is attatched to the steeringwheel. If you replaced it with an aftermarket wheel, would you be able to reattatch the cruise control?

The cruise control is on a stalk that is attached to the column not the steering wheel. Changing to an aftermarket wheel will not affect this. You will have to deal with the SRS light on the gauge cluster because you would have removed the airbag.

Squall it is good to see you on here. I have been all alone on this site for a while. I was beginning to get all Tom Hanks. Wilson!!

this is a tC forum right?
Yep, you are correct. I have got to stop posting so dang late at night! It is on a stalk on the backside of the wheel, not the column. It is connected thru the clockspring so that the cruise functions are safely accessible while the wheel is in a slight turn as on a highway or road. This is plainly seen in this pic of my Son's RS3.0.

Never fear though. I surmise that you should be able to retain your cruise control feature without too much trouble. From the design of the control stalk, you should be able to drill two holes into the center hub of the aftermarket wheel and bolt the control stalk to it. The wiring thru the clockspring is already there so it should be a cinch. I will have to try this out when I remove my SRS system.
