Gearshift will not light up

Hey,
I've got an '06 tc. The gearshift usually doesn't light up, but every once in a while does. I pulled off the lower part of the waterfall, but couldn't find the bulb, and if it was the bulb, it wouldn't work occasionally, same with the fuse.

Anybody hear of this problem?? If so, any ideas for me??

It is an incandescent bulb. Just like slapping a flashlight sometimes gets a broken filament in the bulb to make connection, so to can the shift console bulb.

I have the same problem with my 06 Tc. Gearshift light would illuminate intermittently and now doesn't light up at all. Did you find a way to replace the bulb by removing only the lower waterfall portion? I want to replace my my bulb but if its as bad as replacing the selector bulb in my 99 corolla I may have to wait. The Corolla ordeal took me almost two hours to complete and the Tc diagram that Navylife59 provided looks even more tedious than replacing the bulb in my 99 corolla. Taking apart the whole center console is a PIA for one lightbulb.

I also think its pretty odd that the gear shift bulb failed so soon. My Tc is little over 4 years old with 47k miles. My Corolla managed about 90k miles and 8 years before the gearshift bulb went.

Any idea what kind of bulb goes there? I'm guessing a 194? been looking around to see if anyone replaced with an LED yet and how the light coverage has been.

It is not as difficult as you think. It is very easy and straight forward. Should take a first timer only about 15~20 minutes to remove. Suggest that you find an LED bulb as a replacement.
