Sounds like a bad install. Most of the problems, including my own, are attributed to bad installs. Vortech and TRD were very specific in their detailed instructions. Apparently, Toyota mechanics can't follow simple directions. I have about 25K miles on my S/C. I have it apart on a bench to do some upgrades on it. The seals and the bearings are in perfect shape.

Its possible it was install. But all three were from 3 different dealerships, so if its bad installs. its across the board. I know of ATLEAST 7 people PERSONALLY who have blown atleast 1 supercharger. Thats not a good track record.
I got it done at a different dealer than the initial install, I am leaving this one stock so I shall see how it is.

It was definately across the board. I have talked to TRD and TRD sparks (these guys are the gurus). Both have stated that improper torque settings and sequences have caused the leaks and the cracked mounting brackets. Anyone that has ever turned a wrench should be aware of this. You just can't crank down a bolt and expect it to be right and not cause issues later, especially with aluminum.

The failed bearings could have been a clogged needle port in the main bearing gallery. This maybe due to trash from assembly at the factory or during the install. This can be removed for inspection/cleaning. I think it should be part of a maintenance cycle at the Dealership.

If the the sealed bearings at the end of the shaft or the idler sealed bearings failed, it is primarily due to excessive torque setting on the bolts. This happened to one of my idler bearings. The Dealership recently has been able to order these; $35 a piece.

they did on mine. There are specs in the instructions. I wathced them while doing that part of it. had to stop in and drop off parts from the stock airbox and they were using a torque wrench.

I thik its luck of the draw. Some people blew it stock, and some blew it with it modded. Mine started to go while still stock.

They fixed the mounts breaking so that is a good thing. Now all the new issues seam to be the internal bearings going.

The main issue has been the torque sequence, not the torque settings. These two can cause different issues. As for bearings, I have not heard much about internal bearings failing, just the idler bearings which are sealed units (permanently greased/no oil).

If it blows up, then Scion is required to cover it under the 12 month warranty (longer if dealer installed). Now, are you going to get that on turbo setup? Doubt it.

Torque sequence is the order of tightening.
Most times it will be a star pattern bringing it to half torque pressure, then another star pattern bringing it up to torque specs.

Think like a changing a tire, you tighten them diagonally, not just in a circle.
