    Hi all,

I've been trying to fill in the blanks on the new-to-me car and figure out some of the things the manual has hidden without a search function, LOL. Never pictured myself as a Scion owner but this baby is CUTE! I didn't even realize till I saw it on the lot that it was a Scion. Thought they only made shoeboxes.

Anyhow, this looks like a great site. I'm on Oahu, bought the car used at Tony Autoplex, which is where I'll probably take it for service, which will hopefully be infrequently. If anyone else knows of good service centers on Oahu, let me know.

Most people think just that; shoebox. I like to call them xBoxes. There are not too many tC's on the island or atleast from what I have seen. I am scheduled to be there towards the middle to the end of next week. We have a few Members that live on Oahu.

Welcome to the Club. Post up some pics of your baby and show us how to do it island style. I need a Mai Tai!

Thanks for the welcome. Maybe I can send our son to get the red dirt washed off Friday for a photo - he likes driving it at least as much as I do, and is quite pleased with my selection (it's hard to find a manual transmission around here, so my choices were limited).

From your handle, I'm guessing you're Navy... (duh). Active duty still? My better half is retired Army but still works at Tripler. We have several Navy friends. I love the military cameraderie here with all the services

Yes I am in the Navy; 9 years and 3 mos. Just finished a 4 years and 3 mos. Active Duty stint. Now I am back to being just a Naval Reservist. I am a C-130T Load Master and that is what gets me out to the Pacific Basin so much. I have never been to Fort Shafter or Tripler but have driven by them quite a few times leaving Hickam. I am not an Army Brat (wished I was), but my Dad enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1945 and was discharged from the Air Force in '48. He ended up an MP under General Whitehead of the Far East Air Forces Command just 2 buildings down from General MacArthur and across the street from the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. My Naval career has afforded me the opportunity to trace my Father's steps across the Pacific.

Fascinating that you can track your dad's locations throughout the war. The Army doesn't allow for quite as much travel as the Navy, though we were fortunate to be able to snare two tours to Hawaii, thanks to my husband's volunteering to do a 2nd unaccompanied tour to Korea if they'd let us do the final tour before retirement here in Hawaii. Since this agreement occurred in early 2001 Iraq and Afghanistan weren't in the general picture at all, though he did do 4 months in Kuwait. Both our kids are Army brats, but still managed to be fortunate enough to spend most of their school time here in Hawaii in the same school, including high school graduation.

Our son still qualifies but our daughter misses the commissary, gas, and insurance privileges (lost when she got married at 22). She's in San Luis Obispo, where the extra savings could help a lot, LOL.

    Have a great Turkey Day!
