Welcome to Club-tC.com Casey and glad to have you aboard. I also have a 2006 Scion tC, which is mildly modded, but far from finished. Since your just starting out, what all do you have done on your tC? What future mods are you looking at? There are a few forums under the " New Members " Section that may interest you, check those out. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us, we'll be glad to help you out.

What are you doing with the audio system. Just upgrading or do you have a specific goal/plan?

Casey, what are your plans for the sound system? Are you looking for just bass or for SPL? Are you looking to go with 10'' subs or 12''? I have a sound system from my prior vehicle that is in excellent working order if your interested. I have pics as well, let me know.

thanks for the offer, but i already have every thing i need.

right now i have a Sony XPlod head unit, Sony 5-1/4's in the front, Pioneer 6-1/2's in the back, and a 100 watt kicker amp - sony 6x9's in the trunk. a budy of mine is getting rid of 2 JVL 10" subs with the box, i might just switch out the 6x9's with the subs.

Yeah, drop the subs. Back in the day, a company (can't remember) had 6x9 sub woofers that really rocked but could not come close to a high quality 10" sub.

Yeah i think thats what i am going to do, goin with the 10"s. the 6x9"s have good bass but its not enough to get that low-end satisfaction. even with the little 100 watt amp the 10"s should still bump hard.

My sound system consists of a 12'' Cadence Daytona SPL Subwoofer, Planet Audio 1250 Watt Class-D Monoblock Amp, and a PowerAcoustik 5 Farad Cap. The box is custom built MDF w/ a 3/4 acrylic window and aeroport. The last time I had my system tested, it was hitting 133.5 dB, but that was with the prior box which was a slot port and smaller in size. This spring I plan on having the system retested and I'm upgrading to a 3000 Watt Cadence Class-D Monoblock Amp w/ a Kinetik battery in the hidden away. Plus I may have to have my alternator redone as well.

Back in the day, I used to have to specially built 10" Atomic subs (x2) hitting 137db off a 1-Ohm bridge oldskool Lanzar Opti 500 amking about 1200watts RMS. Had 2 .5 farad caps and dual 4ga power and 1ga ground. All of the engine compartment grounds were upgraded to 4ga.

I did have one (ahead of it's time) aspect to my system. I had these shallow, half-moon 6.5" enclosures mounted under the front seats for mid-bass. They were filled with poly-fil and were tuned ported. I ran a custom high-pass 24db/Octave x-over set for 100hz into a Lanzar 6.5" sub at 100watts RMS. I left the seat material to naturally filter out the high frequencies. The result was amazing mid-bass that was not localized. Drum solos (big back in the day) were phenomenal. Did I happen to mention all of it, and then some, was totally free? I used to work for Metra Electronics back in 93-96 as their Central US Sale Manager. I used the car to showcase our (then) new line of speakers and enclosures. I played a big part in bringing in their initial Tsunami line.

You Youngsters and your fancy sound machines!

I had a set of Sonys in my old Nissan, they were nice, but to be honest I dont know much about Speakers and Subs.

From personal experience, I would get yourself a 2-way or 3-way component set, w/ silk dome tweeters, a 1000watt amp or bigger, and a 5-10farad capasitor. For subwoofers, I would do a couple 10'' or 12'' subs. I don't know if your looking for sound or hard hitting bass. It all boils down on what your willing to spend. Keep in mind when it comes to car audio/video, you get what you pay for. The cleaner, crisper, clearer the sound the better.

When you upgrade your stock door speakers, you'll need to make or purchase a speaker template.
