Back pressure (BP). Now that is a topic worthy of its own encyclopedia volume. I will keep it short and simple as it pertains to the TRD S/C setup.

BP is good and bad. It all depends on your application and power band. The Stock TRD S/C makes alot of power down low 3.5k - 5.5K with 4K-5K being the sweet spot. With an aftermarket header, s-pipe, and axle-back, my power band shifted to 4K-6K with my sweet spot being 4.5K-5.5K supercharger-exhaust-jotech-tune-baseline.jpg. Now that I have a full custom 2.5" exhaust and no cats, my BP is minimal. I have not dyno'd yet, but I can tell you that my power band has shifted further up. One thing to notice is that I am not making full torque either. This is OK since I my goal is a power level that needs a more open exhaust.

To sum things up, some BP is good for the TRD S/C. An s-pipe is the biggest restriction in the exhaust so it definately should be replaced. That and an axle-back is all you need. The OEM header and mid-pipes flow well enough for making power below 250WHP.

NOTE**** There is a company out there that makes a variable restrictor valve that changes the BP in the exhaust. Hook the solenoid to an e-manage to vary the BP to broaden the powerband.

yea bro i'd definetly get a bigger S-Pipe .. less ristriction .. more exhaust flow .. more power .. altho if it was a turbo it would be better since the turbo works off exhaust gasses .. but i guess you'd get some power from the s/c anyways

Eh if anything put on a header before you have the SC installed. A 2.5 inch exhaust (or whatever 2' size piping the tC has stock) is more than enough backpressure.

Now if you have a custom 3 inch exhaust, you better have some serious boost going.

Other than that a header/spipe/exhaust wont hurt you a bit. The piping is small enough that you get backpressure, with minimal restrictions to flow from the aftermarket parts

It is an s shaped pipe that is between the header and the mid pipe. Basically it snakes under the oil pan and over the rack and pinion. Scion built it with cheap bends that make it too restrictive. It is completely smog legal (its just a pipe) and will free up some back pressure making your exhaust system slightly more efficient. Yes a lil more HP. Probably anywhere from 3-8 WHP, if that much. Definately a place to start.

In regards to the S-pipe, is it possible to change the s pipe and not have the CEL light come on? Or does that only happen if you replace the header?

I LOVE noise .. lol .. i'm chewing the sh*t out of a lot of cars especially from a dig .. 07 3.5 SE altima .. 02 Mitsubishi Galant V6 .. 04 Honda Accord Coupe V6 .. and others ( too much to name ) lol ..
