Default reseting ecu?

ok may seem like a dumb question, but if u get the cold intake from trd, and an exhaust, would u need to reset the ecu or is it just for major upgrades?

and does anyone have a list or something of approved aftermarket parts that wont void warranties?

thanx much.

There is no list of parts in regards to warranties. The Scion approved accessories are the only parts that will not void your warranty, even if you install them yourself. Of course, that is if you don't screw up the install.

The simplest method to reset the ECM (Electronic Control Module) is to remove the negative battery cable for about 3-5 mins. Now reconnect it and reset your window module. Follow your manual for this. It will take anywhere from 20-50 miles for the ECM to recalibrate its tables.

let me ask you a question navy. If you add I/H/E would you have to richen up the motor? The reason i ask is beacause i know that the scion tc runs really lean, and if you add an CAI it would lean it out more. or would the ECU relearn it self?

That is why you reset the ECM; to let it relearn. It is true that the tC's run on the leaner side, but that is only going to be a problem if you are shooting too much juice. The ECM is very smart and will keep you from blowing up your ride. At the same time, it will give you as much performance that it can safely and reliably.

Thanks for confirming that for me navy. I think im going simple with this project. I/H/E light pulleys, light 17x8 rims, maybe a carbon fiber hood, fenders and hatch.

Good place to start. I see a TRD S/C in your future.

Exclamation

LOL!!! I thought about the S/C but don't like the bang for your buck on the S/C... I think turbo is the way to go (for the money and the Power you can make).
I really want to focus on finishing up the motor for my Evo. but to be honest with you i think that project is such a headache Beside I'm not in the position to spend alot of money. With a baby on the way and the taxes for my house soon due, I know i can't really do what i want to do. My Wife said i can finish building the motor on the Evo but i can't go crazy on this car (which is the scion tC), i don't blame her, because i can really go crazy on builing a car...

$1850 to get your car to 199WHP on 7PSI that is safe, reliable, and under warranty. This is more bang for the buck than a Stage 0 turbo kit for $2300-2700 that makes 220-240WHP and is not under warranty and could be a strain on the motor. That is my opinion.

i would have to disagree on the strain on motor part... 3 of my friends with scion tc 2005 and a 2007 scion, all 3 of them put out 301 WHP with stock motor... the one that is put down 301whp runs it hard every day for about 3 years now. and other two have almost the same setup and they both put down 300 whp and they run it harder then my other friend. So I know from experience that the scion tc can hold some serious power...
P.S. Nothing but love for you, navy...

Well 3 years is kinda short when talking about a cars. If you run a s/c you can be pretty sure that the car will last over 100K. Running 300WHP will decrease your chances of doing that, thats all he is saying.

i recently found out you can get the trd S/C for under 2000 from trd sparks thanks to navy, and if you add it up the s/c is more bang for your buck

Idiaz28, you are absolutley correct about the balls the 2AZ-FE has. Kenny Tran told me that he prefered the Scion over his Hondas. The Hondas made gobs of power but burn themselves up. The 2AZ-FE can easily handle 300WHP on a stock block, no prob. Unfortunately, there are alot of blown motors out there from boost happy turbo owners who crank the boost past their maps capabilities. Others are from crappy kits, poor installs, and bad tuning.

bwood87, you are absolutely correct about the S/C over the turbo. In the long run, the S/C will out live the turbo. Now, I know there are exceptions with some turbos having no probs and S/C's shooting gears thru the hood, but those are not the norms.

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. Either one is fine. Heck, if Kenny can get Tony (the master salesman) to break me down, I will be sporting a 900WHP+ tC drag car. Rest assure Club-tC members, Project tC will ALWAYS be S/C!!!!!!

With good reason. The supercharger is a great compromise, not to be confused with The Great Compromise. It has boost but not too much, it involves some work but not as much as a turbo, decreases your MPG but is still CARB approved and 50 state emissions legal, and is represented by two seperate houses.
Its a perfect deal for someone that just wants to add a little umph to their daily driver.

If you were to purchase the TRD S/C kit, would that come with the ECM reflash module, or would you have to hit Toyota up for that? Just curious as I just picked up an 08 tC and im trying to look waaayyy down the road (im an 18 year old, broke, college student) LOL.

and I just realized how incredibly off topic this got from "resetting ecu"
again...LOLz

It comes with a little plug pack that the dealer's technician uses to upload the corrected TRD maps. The dealers are setup and are supposed to be willing to reflash that module for you at a small labor charge. Call around for pricing.
