Hi all, this is my first post. =P
I got my tC bout 5 months back after wrecking my second Eclipse. I'm still paying for my tC, myself, but would like to upgrade what I can. As of right now, I have the TRD exhaust on it. I don't know alot about cars / upgrades, but I'm learning. Basically, with help from you guys, I would like to compile a list of things to do to my tC (keeping it NA for now) that I could start as a long-term project. I'm still in college and pretty much on my own... but I can't resist wanting to upgrade. If anyone could toss out any info, that would be great. I just want to have a game plan. I was thinking I / E / H and pulleys and stuff. I dont know what order to do it in, or how to do it. Or anything about passing emissions tests etc... Well, post away! Thanks. |

Welcome to Club-tC. There are plenty of very informative threads around here as well as plenty of knowledgeable people. We can help you learn, just ask anything and we will help you get the answer.
You have a good start there with the I/H/E and pulleys. You can do those in any order and they are very easy to install. As far as passing emissions, the only thing you need to worry about is with getting headers. If you look under the hood you can see the primary catalytic converter is located within a few inches of the exhaust ports, so any after market header is going to delete your catalytic converter, there by, not being able to pass emissions. With a simple trick you can fix it so you can pass though. Determining what you want to do now really depends on what your overall goal is with the car, otherwise you may have to buy the same parts more than once. |

Hey thanks for the response.
Basically, I wont have the money to afford a turbo / S/C for... a long time. Being on my own with expenses kinda limits my budget. I dont have 3k to spend + installation and any other items I'll need to upgrade. I'm looking to get around 200HP in my NA setup within a year or two. If there is a specific path to take to upgrade to that level, please do enlighten me. I just want to compete with these hot-head civics and integras in my area. Their time is over. |

Let's say one of you car enthusiasts are going to trick out your new tC... going to keep it NA and want to space it out over 6 months - a year.
What would you guys do first, second, third etc... I just want to know where to start, with what piece. Just get a running start. |

Thanks.
Yea I've been reading around alot really. Navylife seems like the general go-to guy for technical questions. Since I have the TRD exhaust, I was going to add an Injen CAI next, and then a Agent Power lightweight pulley. I'm feeling hesitant about the whole header deal, as I'm not so experienced with taking apart cars / the whole CEL eliminator deal. Installing a header may be easier than it sounds, but as for right now I'm leaving that as my last step unless someone tells me otherwise. I think after the intake / pulley I'll get a cat-back exhaust system to upgrade from my TRD. After the intake / pulley, besides going for a header, I dont know what to do really. I know I/H/E is the basic set up for most NA tCs, but I'm just nervous about doing a header without a professional to install it / help me out. Comments or thoughts? |

Ok so i'm new to the site, and while i don't have my TC yet, (will have one within 6 months TOPS) i was wondering if anyone had an experience with the TRD Intake / Exhaust.
It'll be an 08 silver or white, here's what i'm thinking Power Train: ~TRD Intake/Exhaust - just because they don't "void" the warranty. ~I am sketchy on the intake i haven't ready a whole lot about it, i know it's just a rebranded AEM but still like to hear a little more. ~Pully - was wondering if light weight pullies really do free up that much horses or make a deffinate difference in feel. Suspension: ~TRD Springs - Great Drop / Good Price Whats Not To Love ~TRD Sway Bar - Again it's about price Suggestions always welcome i've been surfing a few forum sites and i have to say this is the only 1 i registered on because it seemed to have the most intelligent and well informed people. |

Sounds good for the most part. From my gathered knowledge, the Injen Cold Air Intake (CAI) system seems to be one of the best around, and it's the one I will be getting.
If you're planning to go all through TRD / your dealer... you might get jacked on some prices as dealers will sometimes charge a bit more... but then again it all depends on your dealer / who you know. The pulley change is supposed to be something like 11 HP and 13(dont know exact) torque gain... so for 150 bucks, you can't beat that really. I dont really know much about suspension / sway bars, my car has niether. I dont know if they are worth getting as initial upgrades or not... I plan to get a new intake (Injen) then new pulleys (Agency Power) and after that a cat-back exhaust system (still deciding brand)... I'm going to do headers last, as I stated in my previous posts that I'm a little unsure about them. Hope that helps! I'm new too lol. =P |

Yea i'm not new to cars, just to the site and to the tc in general.
I do like injen parts, but theres the whole new car and not getting the warranty honored, or having it "voided" quote/unquote if something does go wrong. I may just go supercharged straight out the gate. As for the parts my buddy works in service at the scion house so i'd probably have him order them, or tell me what they list, so they don't jack me, OR order them offline. Power Train is a Tricky Warranty to Dance Around And even though toyota / scion has great reliability, i'd rather be covered than eating the cost or paying the insurance deductible. Still looking for reviews, or info on the TRD Intake. I hear the exhaust is ok unless you upgrade the headers. Also anyone added fuel injectors to their supercharged tc's? |
|
|||
|
Yea I dont have the money to supercharge / turbo mine or I would go with a whole turbo kit for 100+HP.
Yea, I was wondering about fuel injectors too, if you upgrade them on a NA engine, is it a good difference? At least enough to pay for them? I dont believe its that expensive. And if so... any one know a link? |
|
|||
|
You really don't need to add fuel injectors to a NA car, because the added air you get from CAI/SRI isn't going to to have you running lean. It'll work better if you have someone tune it for a good Fuel:Air Ratio but it's not gonna make an incredible difference where Injectors would be NEEDED. i think the stock injectors are 220cc and the GReddy install kit comes w/ 440cc's but again those are only NEEDED because with Turbo your Fuel:Air is DRAMATICALLY altered.

turbos are nice, like i said i'll probably go TRD Supercharger, because you may not get AS much top end power, but you get your lower RPM torque upped because there is no turbo lag, and TRD S/C Keeps me in warranty so i'm not dishing out money for repair IF (crosses fingers) something does happen.

|
|||
|
Yea, I hadn't looked into the TRD supercharger much. I couldn't find prices and info on it on thier site...
Anyone have a price check on it? I dont know that much about turbo / S/c... With a turbo I know you need to gut alot out of your car... fuel lines, lots of plumbing really. Basically, all I have on my tC is the TRD exhaust system. What would I need to buy in order to get the TRD S/C? Or does the kit have pretty much everything? I'm clueless |

Right now the 2006 and before: $1890 + $155 for the redesigned mounting bracket + shipping 2007 and on: $2950 + shipping If you have an automatic its another $50 for either. The kit includes everything you need. You just need to have to dealer do an ECM reflash after it is installed. |

Anyone have actual experience with some of the lightweight TC pully packages, to the "free up/add/gain" that much HP/Torque? |

Well, i wasn't getting much of a response over in the F/I forum so... heres my post!
__________________________________________________ ______________ Hey guys, I have an '06 manual tC with the TRD exhaust kit, and nothing more! And I want to start modding I'm looking for some more power, originally I was going to go with I/H/E and just add various things, pulleys, etc... After seeing the S/C was down to about 1900 shipped, I started thinking about saving up. Now, I'm 18 and pretty much living on my own (not too great "at-home" situation lol) but I work alot. It also seems like you don't really achieve much with just I/H/E set-up and staying N/A. I want to hit / go over 200whp eventually. I don't know what I'll need for the supercharger, if anything besides the kit. I also don't know cars real well, so I'll probably have to have a dealer install it. What I'm wondering is if it's worth it to get the S/C first then upgrade I/H/E later. I want real power basically, but I don't have the time/energy/knowledge to turbo. (Or the money, lol). I have gathered that if you really want to compete, you're going to need to turbo or at least S/C your tC... and I want to compete. =P I'm looking for it to be a daily driver, but I also encounter alot of Civic Si's, Integra GSR's, Honda Accords, and other various "ricer" cars. Lol. I wanna smoke em or at least beat em. I don't plan to run 1/4 any time soon, just some local street races / highway races. Thanks for any info! |

Ok basically what I got from your post is that you want advice on what to do...(this is for the post above mine.Daemonn)
You dont NEED to modify anything on the tC if you go with the TRD s/c. From what I understand with a stock exhuast you might get some back fire. But I would suggest that you just save up the money, and then put the s/c, and then figure out if you NEED more power. |
|

Go with the TRD S/C and get a 9.5 PSI pulley from NST. Then do header, 2.5" exhaust and replace your other pulleys with light weight ones. After that you are just going to have to work on keeping your wheels planted i.e. tighter suspension, better tires, possibly an LSD. You can do all of the mods I listed in any order that you want. I would recommend doing the pulleys while installing the S/C since you are going to have to take your belt of anyway.

Thanks guys. I was just looking for confidence to move in the right direction. You've been really helpful.
Now, hopefully, within 2-3 months I'll be able to afford the S/C and hopefully the 9.5 psi pulley. Anything past that will come a bit later. =P Thanks alot guys. |
