I have a 2007 tC that I bought November 2006 brand new with 3 miles on it.
In October 2007 i wrecked the front end but from the receipt of repairs, no damage had been done the the catilyc (sp) convertor. The repair shop however put the wrong coolant. I drove around like that for 3 months before having them flush it out and run the pink one. My catilyc (sp) convertor is BRIGHT red as opposed to everyone else's that are black. Why? I have done NO modifications to the engine or exhaust what so ever. Any ideas?? |

no. no one painted it. one of my friends says that it turned red because it is over heating.

Cats can and do get clogged. When they do, the backpressure still may not be excessive enough to choke the motor, but allow the heat to build to the point to cause it to glow. Now are we talking about the primary (three-way cat) or the secondary mid-pipe cat? If the one at the header (primary) is actually glowing red hot, it could also be excessive timing advance or overly rich condition. With the ECM in complete control, this is very doubtful and most likely a clogged convertor. Are there in DTC codes thrown by the ECM or the MIL illuminated?
The Toyo pink radiator fluid is a special all-aluminum compatible mixture. Even so, you would have to be running 50/50% acid/fluid to have the radiator fluid be the cause of this. I agree with everyone else, something hokey is going on. Take your tC to the dealer immediately. The powertrain should still be under warranty.
