so i took out the carbon element a couple weeks ago and noticed the car got a lil more pep to it...then today i decided to experiment and removed the black tube that goes into the fender. wow my car now sounds like it has a supr delux intake!! lmao
no but seriously it sound really good and is a hell of alot louder now when you mash on the gas. has anyone tried this ? its unbelievable how much difference one little tube makes... |

noooo guys im not running filterless lol. Il break it down for ya tho. If you open your airbox ( box that your airfilter sits in) and look inside the upper peice you will find a white paper like filter stuck to the top, this is not your air filter. It is a carbon element and is put there for emissions, its also pretty restrictive...I live in florida and we dont have to pass any emissions test here so I removed it.
Then the other day I got bored and was looking at the engine ...saw that the airbox has a section of tube that goes from it to the wheel well. All it does (the section of tube) is suck air from the wheel well and sends it to the airbox....doesnt really matter tho cause theres a big hole right there and cold air comes thru either way...I removed the tube and viola! vrrooooooooooooooommmmm!!!! now you can really hear the engine breating when you floor it and theres no drop in power at all. il try to post a pic of this tube if you really dont know which one i mean. If your looking at the engine, its connected to the airbox and extends into the right wheel well. |

ok look when you open your airbox, its not the filter in plain view on the bottom half of the airbox. Its the white preforated one installed in the UPPER HALF of the airbox. You have to take the upper half off and flip it upside down to see it. Remove it and the carbon canister thats connected to the intake tubing, plug the hole with a cap after you remove it tho.

You can also drill five or six half inch holes in the bottom half of the air box under the filter too. You will get the same effect cause it brings in three times the air. It isn't a bad temp until you get a cai or sram either.

Drill some holes ? Sounds like a good idea to get some more air up in there, since thats the objective here. Allowing more air to enter the engine...How did you come up with the number 6 ? I think I might try like 4 cuz I dont want to let too much in, is that even possible...to let to much air in ?

Before i got my CAI I did the same thing and it worked great. I got bored one day and I chopped the bottom half all the way down until it was just the ring holding the filter to the top of the box. It worked well. Then I got the CAI.

True. I have taken off the entire bottom of the air box before. I just didn't with my tC because I wanted more support for the bottom to have good connection to the car. So no you can't let in too much air. But how did you pull of the carbon filter in the top?
