Interesting.
A staggered set up. Probably looking for a more stable and linear power band. I'm all for 271/271 even profile. I love pulling at the top end. =D But the staggered cam set up is much more ideal.

okay education time!!!
trying to figure out what this "staggered setup" means. cant wait any longer. what do the numbers mean and whats the difference as far as performance between an even setup and staggered setup? thanks!

My goodness, those links Navy posted is like an automotive textbook online.
Anyways, to get to the point short, "Staggered" cams means that the Intake cam profile is slightly less aggressive than the Exhaust cam profile. For example, what Navy posted above the 262/271 (I'm going to assume it might've been an error and really is 272) means the profile of the Intake camshaft is set at 262 and the exhaust camshaft at 272. Staggered cams with the proper tune provides a more stable and linear power availability. Oversizing and making your cam profile "even" at both the Intake and Exhaust side allows for some insane pull at High RPMS, but lacks efficiency at lower RPMS. Not to mention an odd idle. Read up on those links, they're really informative. Navy is like the tech guru, I'm just knowledgable about modifications and tech when it comes to the performance of the vehicle. I'm the driver, I let the real brains, like Navy, do all the talking. I just drive. =D

Spanks alot. Yeah, I was probably off by one. I used to know a bit about cams many moons ago. Just like most things, I have forgotten them.

cant wait to see what these things do to a tc on the dyno! How much hp and tq gains are we lookin at here ? 10 ? Im dieing to unleash the vvti! It has great potential and like navy said, damn bumper stickers need to be worth the money
VVTI and BEYOND! |

Cams are less about making numbers as they are about unleashing the potential of the vehicle's modifications.
Cams are the perfect, and almost essential modification to any forced induction application. It broads your vehicle's horizons, it maximizes potential and boosts versatility. That to me, and to any serious driver, is worth infinitely more than any gained numbers on the dyno.

so are performance cams made of a different material or reinforced with carbon or something? or are they just bigger and stronger and still made of steel?
