Default HPS Short ram??

Hey I know everyone does't trust ebay intakes and all, but this one looks interesting...If it can perform like the injen or trd or aem, it would be a good buy. I was wondering if any one on the forum has tried the HPS short ram or cold air intake??...here is the link on ebay...

eBay Motors: HPS Scion tC 2007 2008 07 08 Shortram Intake Gain 8 HP (item 270238356099 end time May-24-08 17:43:00 PDT)

In my honest opinion... most if not all of the intakes on the market will yield the same output in their own specific category (short ram for short ram, cai for cai). They just open up the intake by reducing the amount of obstructions with the flow of air into the manifold. Heck, I could build my own intake using aluminum tubing and silicone couplers and claim an 8 horsepower increase. Once you start doing headwork, then it starts to make a difference.

I say go for it. It looks like a halfway decent piece and the price is pretty good.

One thing to watch out for on Ebay is that most things are Chinese made. That means inferior materials. China is a pro at copying things and then finding cheaper way of making, mainly with low quality materials. You may find the tubing to not be aluminium or the tubing could be paper thin. Also, the polish most likely will not be a burnished micro-polish.

What I can see from the pic is a welded in MAF mount. This is extremely difficult to do with thin tubing, so it probably is thick enough not to ding easily or crack. Still trying to figure out what the orange extension cord is for? The other item to think about is the quality of the filter media.

As for building your own intake, I have found that on the S/C setup is no picknic. The MAF is very sensitive to any change in the plumbing. My original redesign not only was reading twice the grams/sec flow, it was also experiencing turbulance.

Thanks for the information Navy..I was looking at the welds myself, but my reasoning behind maybe buying this intake was at the time i was saving up for the supercharger so i was just going to get a cheap intake for the time being, but since gas is $4 a gallon and rising each day im starting to have second thoughts!!! After doing some test runs...in a closed area..on my car I really need to improve the handling of the car, the 18's do not help. Also i think that is one of the most important mods to do 1st, cuz you have to be able to handle the added power. I look at the Hotchkis TVS stage 1 setup and it looks good but i did not really want that low of a drop with the 18's so i might go with the trd stuff...front strut, rear sway, springs and shocks....

i'd rather u go with a great name brand .. plus that HSP nonesence claims 8 hp .. this one claims 15 .. make the right choice

besided u'll get more from a cold air than a short ram .. just avoid puddles
unless u get an AEM bypass valve to help prevent hydrolock

AEM Cold Air Induction System Scion TC SALE!!! Free Shipping

I was thinking cold air intake myself, but I have an auto tranny...and from my understanding short ram works better with auto's because the air has less of a path to travel and you are only in you peak RPM's for a few with auto, where as with a manual, you can control you RPM's in the higher range, so you will be able to use the benefits of a cold air intake better. I might be wrong, but that is the understandin I got from the other motors i have worked on.

Also dont forget, if you open up the intake, you also will get better gas milage out. Also, Ac3...getting the bypass for the CAI wont always work...just helps. But that is a whole other topic...
