The tC comes stock with a coilover setup. The trd setup is an adjustable coilover setup.
As far as the drop, you can adjust it to what you want it to be. Not sure the max tho.

I'm actually purchasing a tC soon, and I did not know this.

How adjustable is this coil over set up?

All MacPherson strut systems are considered coilovers. They just are not adjustable. That is the main difference, adjustability. Another difference is lighter yet stronger materials.

Nothing suitable for Auto-X I take it?

Stock no. TRD, probably not. For AutoX then you should invest in adjustable coilovers.

Only issues with goign to adjustable coilovers for auto-x is you will outclass the tC EXTREMELY quickly, and no longer be a contender at all.

The cool thing about autocross is you can compete in any car. And ifyou stay in your class do just fine. But just throwing every part on the WRONG car, and you will NEVER win. And the tC is a prime example.
Put enough parts on the tC and you will soon be competing against EVOs and STIs, and no mater what you do, you wont be catching up to them.

So look into the rules of classes before deciding. If your just gonna auto-x for the heck of it. And loosing isnt an issue, then get the coilovers and make that car handle well. I know I dont mind loosing, thats why I didnt stay stock. But I know in the class I am in, I will never win.

A fully adjustable coilover kit shouldn't take up that many points.

Most sanctioned AUtoX in CA uses a point based class system.

Certain modifications cost certain points, and each class has a point limit.

The most obvious point mods that increase points are in power.

Power, is a little concern to me, however, I have seen FF based cars, tuned well, and with the right driver compete fine with FR's and AWD's.

It's just a royal PITA that the tC does not come with a front LSD. That's the biggest money sink for me.

I guess it depends what club your racing with. In SCCA, a single mod can put you over.

SCCA has got to be the king of Stock based races.

Which was fine when I had a WRX, but not on a tC, noooooo sir.

These are all good points made. Homework must be done before jumping into any type of racing.

Well SCCA, and SCCA Auto-X and Rally have probably the most stringent rules. WHich can be a good thing, if you're driving a very well versed car stock.

But not if it's a Scion tC. I don't have a problem admitting my car's limitations, but being penalized for wanting to catch up is trying to be ridiculous.

As posted above there is no way I can beat the new STi's, LanEvo MR's, and S2K's without only a "couple" of modifications.

Not only are they eclipsing us in sheer power, but in handling, response, and drivetrain style. AWD and FR will always have an advantage over FF in Auto-X.

But then again skill is > numbers.

Those cars are purposely built for those type races and are properly designed for their class. I don't believe that Scion intended the tC to be a contender on the track. Classes aside, those cars also cost quite a bit more money. What is funny is that the tC is holding it's own out there on the track.
