2006 Scion TC Clutch issues

    I bought this car for my daughter and she absolutely loves it. Her TC has 87k on it and just recently we had our first major issue. The car will start and the clutch feels normal as far as pressure pressing in and releasing it. The car will go into gear but not matter what gear your in you have to redline it to get it to barely move. Can someone let me know if it's the clutch or could it be something else? Please Help!

    If pedal pressure feels normal then it is as connman429 described. The clutch face is probably smooth as glass. Your fly wheel needs to be carefully examined for overheating and stress cracking. It is probably glassed over and possibily grooved at this point. Much like a brake rotor, it will most likely need to be turned. That is if you can even find someone that can turn a flywheel any more. Prepare for replacement with the clutch. Both are wear items, but the flywheel should last well beyond the life of 1 or 2 clutches. If the wear is not beyond limits, the grooves too deep, and no stress cracking; you can rough up the surface with an orbiting palm sander and about 120-grit sandpaper to remove the glossy surface. Just evenly sand in a circular motion around the circumference of the clutch mating surface of the flywheel. The trick here is not removing the ridges, so much as, producing a matte surface for grip. A glossy flywheel facing will cause the new clutch to not break-in properly and eventually gloss over leading to potential slipping at high torque loads (like starting on a steep hill).
