? about Tien S-Tech

wondering how these are on the tC.. wondering how low it makes the car, and if a camber kit is necessary..which im sure it is...but just curious.. thanks in advance

You will need to get a camber kit with the S.Techs to stay in spec. The drop is pretty significant and also would require getting upgraded shocks as the stock dampers aren't valved correctly for that stiff a spring.

If you can't justify the expense of new dampers then get the H.Techs. The H.Techs make a very noticeable improvement in handling while not slamming the car to the ground. The H.Techs do not need the camber upgrades either.

any idea how low the H techs lower the car? cuz if its not at least 1.5 i dont wanna even waste the time, im going more for looks and smooth ride than performance. thanks!

you can get the eibach spring it lowers it 2 inchs all around and you will not need a camber kit and The car is still very streetable. Also the drop looks great and handles great also.

H.Techs lower the car F:-1.9" / R: -1.5". Your statement about wanting, "looks and smooth ride than performance" is going to be a tough one...most stiff springs are capable of being smooth as long as they have dampers that are valved correctly...incorrect dampers result in harsh (too stiff dampers) or bouncy (too soft dampening).

well i donno if your just talking from experience on the tC but a friend of mine has the Tien's on his ride and it is absolutely perfect...little bouncy but nothin like most cars ive been in.

I'm talking about all suspension on all cars. Your buddy probably has shock/struts that can handle the extra spring rates the S.Techs run. Bouncy cars are that way because the damper (shock/strut) can not stop the spring from bouncing (simple physics). Most any damper can handle +/-10% change in sprig rate with out too many adverse effects (which can include, but are not limited to: early failure, bounciness, harshness, wheel hop).

Tein, Bilstein, Koni, Tokico, KYB and any other shock manufacturer will tell you to have your dampers revalved if you are exceeding the +/-10% rule.

Spring rates specific to the tC:
Spring: F/R in lbs/in:% change from stock
Stock: 146/257
H.Techs: 185/308: +27%/+20%
S.Techs: 202/336: +38%/+31%

So, even by most standards the H.Techs should get better dampers, but the ride quality concerns are minimal in daily driving situations, but pre-mature shock failure will be a factor eventually.

revisting this post, I am going to go with the Tein H Tech series for sure. when you say get my dampers revalved, is that something that I can have done to my stock shocks? and if i do have them revalved, will this prevent my suspension from eventual failure? and does anyone know where i can get a cheap but decent camber kit? sorry for so many questions, im pretty new to suspension, and it worries me...LOL

The revalving is usually not required with H.techs, but it would help. Unfortunately, I do not believe the stock dampers are able to be revalved. Depending on how many miles are on the OEM suspension you can get quite a bit more miles from the OEM dampers and save up for improved performance shocks down the road.

Camber shouldn't be an issue either with the H.Techs. If you need more camber adjustment the Hotchkis rear links are very good.

i got the s techs, they look amazing, the drop is 2.4 in the front, and 2.0 in the rear... they rock. But I'll have to get my shocks replaced eventually... sucks
