Ceramic pads are your best all around choice. Pads designed for race applications have to heat up to a certain temperature to function properly. This temp is well above normal stop and go driving with highway driving making the pad's grip very weak. This is not a safe pad to use on a street car. EBC, Project Mu, Hawk, and a few others make a wide range of pads to fit your needs.

I must ask, why have you decided on changing only the front pads? You should really change all four as a matched set if you are going from OEM to performance pads. If not, your braking system bias may not be in range and could cause you to loose control in a hard brake/turn scenario.

I am going to also agree with Navy and say your best upgrade would be to go with a ceramic brake pad. A ceramic pad is going to less noisy, allow for better breaking, far less brake dust and is harder than a semi-metallic. My suggestions for a good all around ceramic brake pad would be, (EBC, Hawk, Raybestos, TRD, Brembo). As navy also said, if your going to change the front pads out, its best to do all of your pads. The breaking system on most vehicles is going to be 60/40 or 70/30 for ex., but only changing the front pads isn't going to give you the best feel or best stopping ability. If your going to swap out to a better brake pad, I would also upgrade to a slotted/dimpled brake rotor, (EBC, Brembo, Stop Tech, Power Stop, PowerSlot). While your doing this upgrade, you may want to consider painting your brake calipers, and save yourself the added hassle of doing it later on down the road.

Best of luck and hope that we were able to answer your questions. Any other questions you may have, just ask, that's why were here! =)
