Ok, I know the Caliper paint needs to be high heat, but is it only the clear coat the needs to be high heat? or all coats? Do wheels need to be high heat? and again all coats or just clear coat?

If I'm not mistaken, caliper paint does not need clear coat. The wheels do not need to be high temperature paint, but it does need to be WHEEL paint.

Well from what I've read, it does not need the clear coat, but it helps protect it and keep it cleaner? I might just be msitaken tho?

I don't know. I plan on painting my calipers gold and I won't be using a clear coat.

It is all about the prep work and the type of paint used. If you want it really glossy then you can use a clear coat. I don't know of a clear expressly designed for calipers. The closest would probably be a wheel paint clear. Be forewarned though, the thicker your paint is on your calipers, the more likely is that it will fail. Using paint made for calipers, like Duplicolor, will provide you the best service life. These paints are made for the heat and are resistant to brake fluids (not impervious) which engine paints are not formulated for. The trick to keeping them cleaner is low dust brake pads. Also, grinding the cast iron surface smooth will help keep deposits or road grime and brake dust down to a minimum. Be sure not to use any wheel cleaner as most will mar or weaken the paint surface.
