is it illegal to smoke out tailights?

ican some one tell me if its illegal to smoke out my tailights in california?

for smoked tail lights do you buy it? or do you bring it to some kind of shop to paint it that dark red color?

to smoke your current taillights, you either paint it, or put a vinyl overlay on it.

my friend says that as long as you can see a reflection in day and night when a car shines its light on your lights you should be fine. His truck rear lights were painted by an autobody shot and they came out nice. during the night you can see a perfect reflection. during the day they look pitched black but you could still see a reflection.

I used VHT Nightshade. It is a spray paint for tails, headlights, etc.

If you would rather use a vinyl overlay... HeadlightArmor Clear, HID Blue, Racing Yellow, and Smoke Light kits makes one specifically for the tC. It is a pain in the rear end to get it perfect though.

i used to have my tail lights blacked out on my evo and a week after i had it done i had a highway patrol change 3 lanes to pull me over for it! if i were to do it on my tc i would lightly tint them

from what I've seen in SoCal is it all depends on the cop and if he wan't to nail you for it while writing a speeding ticket.
