So I had the idea, and was looking around for pictures. I found serco's tC:

Since Serco hasn't been on in a while, I was wondering if anyone else knows if combining the front lip and wind splitter has any problems with installation/fitment?

And what are your opinions on CF lip + splitter? Too much CF, or just enough to match with a RS1 rear?

Never too much CF. As for fitment, it can be done. It should be a straight forward install depending on the type of lip. With a lip, you are negating some of the positive effects of the wind splitter. The lip will cause a gap for air to flow over the splitter and back under the car. One of the main benefits of a splitter at high speeds is to lessen the air flowing under the car, creating a low pressure area to prevent lift. Allowing air to bleed in will nullify this somewhat. A side effect of this can be induced drag when the two airstreams combine. Just as in a wing, there is a drag effect. To what extent all of this happens, only wind tunnel testing can divulge.

Oh, I'm only considering the OEM lip; the other types aren't subtle enough.

I'm not too worried about performance, so...

Do you know if the APR interferes with oil changes?

That I do not know. It is something that I have not heard. If it goes back far enough it could but you could easily trim it for access.

Is there any special way to trim carbon fiber, or should I just take my rotary tool to it?

I'm also asking for the OEM front lip... planning on VRD fogs.

Run tape along the cut line. Use a fine cutting disc at medium to high speed. The speed depends on how much resin/type is mixed up with the CF. CF cloth cuts with sharp scissors.

Hm... okay, thanks. Just like cutting wood, then.

CF cloth is overlays and such? Not the actual thing... right?

no CF cloth is what you are seeing seeing through the resin, overlays would be vinyl and stickers. CF cloth gets its strength after adding resin and running through an Autoclave (sp?) to bake and harden it

Oh, so carbon fiber is actually a cloth, with protective covering around it... So I need to grind off the covering and then cut the cloth.

not a protective covering.. resin is reinforced by the carbon fiber
just like how steel beams are used to reinforce concrete

Carbon fiber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

you can't just remove the resin and then cut the CF.. that's just.. dumb.
a cutting wheel will go thru both. make sure to wear protective equipment.

however.. it's just easier to just remove the splitter during an oil change.. (that is.. if you really need to in the first place)

Well said. I believe that I confused the situation by not specifying when I mentioned cutting CF cloth. My bad. Sorry 'bout that.:is:

New Orleans streets preclude the use of true wind splitters. I have been contemplating on a retractable one by means of a linear actuator.

yeah I've been looking at these since I traded the Box for the tC back in May. I really like how it looks with the GFX kit (haven't seen one on a stock/naked bumper) but have been trying to find someone with one to use as a template to make one out of aluminum (to keep from getting rock chips like the CF).

Aluminum would be a good alternative. Still wouldn't last more than a minute in New Orleans though.
